Yep, 2 or 3 broken ribs, they are not sure looking at the x-rays. Drunken prank by one of my punters gone wrong. I've never known pain like it, can hardly walk, every movement sends a massive pain around my waist near the injury.
Trouble is, I'm self employed and HAVE to work this weekend and every other weekend. Can't lift my flight case, can't get into my sportscar to drive. Planning on going minimalist with just the laptop and mouse and output from the headphone socket. VDJ to the rescue with the auto playlist feature!!! VDJ7 or VDJ8??? Probably VDJ8 as it's working great for me.
Can't believe that in these modern technology times they have not come up with a better cure than painkillers and send you home to rest. Paracetamol and Codeine just don't cut it. Vodka and coke works better!!! ;-)

What a pussy, call yourself a geordie, more like a mackem, haha, had broken ribs on a few occasions, just wait for the pleasures of having a cough or the mother of all of them a sneeze and forget about having a good nights kip for a few weeks, oh, don't laugh at anything for god sake, and good luck at trying to rise from your pit in the morning.... I think thats all the good news I can give you, have a nice day.
I'd like to say get well soon, but I'll know that will be a down right two faced lie... less pain as soon as possible would be more to the point.
Cheers pal.

Thanks Tayla, you're so supportive, not, ha ha ha. Calling me a mackem? Now that's going way too far!!!
Already had the fun trying to get out of me pit on Monday. Live by myself with all doors locked, nobody else has a key and I needed an ambulance. Only took around 40 minutes to get from me pit to downstairs.
On the plus side, a lot better today than Mon/Tues, must of been the Vodka. ;-) Badly need some proper kip though.
Friends with a retired couple across the street, they brought me a plate of lovely cooked chicken dinner.
Hmmmm....... wonder what they are cooking today. :-)
Cheers matey.

"Have you had an accident at work that wasn't your fault?"
Sue the drunken muppet! LOL
I've never broken anything (thank goodness) but I had something in my back a while ago that gave me paralysing sharp pain when I moved.

Managed to get to my gigs the last 2 weekends. First weekend I had to carry my kit one bit at a time (flightcase and a backpack full of spares, mic, headphones, etc.). I've now solved that I bought a light foldable sack barrow to wheel my gear about. Probably should have done that years ago. I've had to put a chair in my DJ booths so I can sit every now and again to get some relief from my aching back. I have never liked DJing sitting down, got to be on my feet and moving.
Got The Blaydon Race (6 miles) to run next Monday (9th June), wonder if I can run faster on painkillers ha ha ha. Think I'll be happy to finish.

So go on then, this prank you mentioned, enlighten us.
Inviato Mon 02 Jun 14 @ 3:38 pm
OK, OK, on the Saturday I was in the same town and bumped into one of my customers that I've been friendly with for a few years. He's ex army and did 3 tours of Afganistan, left the Army last October. Just 25 year old and very boisterous when he's sober, worse when he's had a few pints. I was wearing my Vibram Five Fingers barefoot running shoes. He hadn't seen them before and proceeded to take a picture with his phone. I said you're gonna put that up on facebook and take the p*ss, he laughed and said yes, it was a bit of a joke.
Next night I was having a drink at my new rock venue when the staff decided to go to this small town for more drink. It's another rock venue and there was about 6/7 of us there. I was talking to the DJ who is a mate of mine and this lad come over cos I was wearing my toes shoes (as some people call them). He was having a laugh and grabbed my ankle and lifted my leg up to waist height to get a closer look. Well, I had a pint in my hand and already had a few, so, he knocked me off balance and I fell against a shelf that goes around the outside of the pub to put your pint on. My beer flew everywhere including on my mates laptop as he was DJing, I managed to save half a pint though ;-)
My ribs were hurting badly, but as I had a few drinks, it was nothing compared to waking up on Monday morning!!! Lying in bed, I live on my own, the doors were locked and no-one else has a key and I thought brilliant I couldn't get out of bed and needed an ambulance asap. It took around 40 minutes to force myself in agony to get out of bed and drag myself downstairs and phone for an ambulance!!!
Spent all Monday afternoon in hospital. Had an x-ray to check for kidney or lung damage, it was fine. But the nurse said I had 2 or 3 broken ribs. They don't strap you up anymore as it did more damage. All they do is send you home with pain killers Codeine & Paracetamol. She also said I needed to go on the Sick for 4 to 6 weeks. I said I can't I'm self employed, I've got to go to work.
I've seen the same lad since, he's very apologetic, and we've had a bit of a laugh about it. TBH there was no malice just a bit of a prank that went wrong.
Sorry if it got a bit of a long story, you did ask. :-)

It wasn't a total disaster then, you saved half your pint :-)

Ha ha ha, yeh, it could have been serious and spilled my whole pint.

The dragging yourself downstairs bit..........have you not got a mobile phone? Or a DECT one that you can take from room to room?
Inviato Tue 03 Jun 14 @ 6:58 am
Firm evidence that wearing the wrong shoes can make bad things happen.
Inviato Tue 03 Jun 14 @ 7:07 am
Wouldn't matter if it was a mobile or portable house phone now would it, unless he wanted the paramedics to kick the front door down, he's still got to get downstairs to open it! Besides he lives south of the Tyne, they still haven't got mains gas never mind electricity.
Another lets see if I can post on this thread effort!

Yep, had both with me. Didn't want the services breaking into my house to get me.
I'm fiercely independent and would rather try and manage on my own. If I couldn't manage then I would HAVE to phone the services.

I had one of my loudest laughs in a while, as Tayla said, wait for a SNEEZE....... GOD!!! that's hurts!!!!!
I had just 1 broken rib playing GOLF (don't ask), and, I had muscles that I didn't know they existed until the pain came with certain movements that hurt a lot!!!!
To sit in the car, waking up from bed, laughing, coughing, sneezing.....damn!!! how much presure the ribs can take....
Have a good recovery...

Am I not entitled to post where I like then?
Les, it just sounded (from your description) that you had to get downstairs in order to make the call.
If you'd made the call upstairs, then they could have been on the way while you made your way down.

Trying to get out of bed on a morning is still mega painful. Believe it or not I've ran (read jogged lol) 4 miles with my running club tonight as a test. TBH was with the beginners and was struggling to keep up with them. I'm planning on running The Blaydon Race next Monday and nothing is gonna stop me! I might be one of the tailenders but I'll get there.
This is a video I took of last years event;

Well, that bottle of wine should help me sleep, dread trying to get up in the morning though.
