I have been using Virtual DJ Pro Basic for a couple of years for small parties, with no controller just on my laptop. I would like to purchase a controller, but there are so many and not sure what would be the best for my situation. Small budget, $250. Not sure what I need. I currently have a Behringer Powered mixer when I use Passive speaker system and have a Behringer Xenyx when I plug into an existing system using their speakers. Not sure if that is relevant but just in case. Welcome your suggestions.

there are tons of controllers that could be recomnmended.
First of all you need to focus to what your piorities and essnetial features of a controller are.
Then check out if there is a dealer near you where you can touch and feel some controllers ( very important to me for example)
Of course you can use your mixer but VirtualDJ is a Midi Software ... so maybe a midi controller can possibly be a replacement for exiting one

Your budget and your current list of gear is not as important to your question as your goals. To give you a proper recommendation those reading your question should also know what you plan to do with a controller. Are you a club DJ? Wedding DJ? Bedroom DJ? You get the drift -- what do you plan to do with a controller?
