Topic: Please help manually administering iTunes Library

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Greetings, I humbly come to these forums with a petition for help

I have recently switched my DJ laptop from a Win7 machine to a MacBook Pro. I’m super stoked about the mac along with the way it runs my primary DJ program (VDJ8) and my backup program (djay Pro). This is my very first mac but I’m a sophisticated PC user with nearly 20 years experience as a gamer and all that entails (driver issues, hardware upgrades, patches etc.)

I have never, ever liked iTunes even though I’ve had it installed for what seems like a decade now in order to put music on my iPods. For music playback and tag editing, I always use Media Monkey. I say this because I want to be clear and upfront that although I have embraced OSX and my mac for DJing, I will still edit tags and create playlists with Media Monkey on my Windows desktop (or in bootcamp sometime in the future). Right now I’m able to easily share files between the two systems with freefilesynch coupled with a desktop HD formatted to exFAT.

The synching, writing, just . . . everything related to the Windows-Apple transition has worked out great. Once I figured that my shared HD needed to be formatted to exFAT for both operating systems to be able to read and write, I was good to go.
That’s the back story. Here is my problem. I need to use iTunes to build and maintain a library so that my tracks are available for use with djay Pro. Can anyone walk me through the settings I need to make so that I can point iTunes at my DJ music folder on my mac where it will use those tracks as the library? I had it set up, initially, but then I couldn’t figure out how to update the library because I add and delete tracks from my DJ (and therefore music) folder all the time. Not sure how to have iTunes reflect the changes to my tracks (some new some deleted). I tried deleting the database but then when I dragged the DJ Music folder into iTunes, iTunes attempted to copy all of the files to a sub folder. I definitely don’t want to do that. I just want iTunes’ library to stay updated without copying the files anywhere and without having to delete and rebuild the library (if at all possible) because adding all of the songs from scratch seems like overkill since my DJ tracks only change in small increments from gig to gig depending on what I’ve found online that week. I’m happy to do this manually. I just need some insight.

Thanks to any who are able to walk me through this.
