Recently at my last gigs my laptop mouse has decided to make things complicated for me. Has anybody ever had their mouse go crazy while performing? Mine seems to work fine for long intervals and in the slightest and most random of moments will decide to go crazy. By crazy, I mean, I'll move my finger all over the pad and its barely moves on screen. Or it will be in the right click mode, or will start to move on its own by the slightest touch on the pad. Any ideas on how to fix this? Lucky that I can control virtual dj from the controller in emergencies. Any help is appreciated

Are you using a wireless mouse (the kind with a USB receiver about the size of a tiny postage stamp attached to your laptop)?
I'm on MacBook Pro's (Plenty of RAM) and I've seen it happen during CD ripping sessions when I transferred my CD's to iTunes. Can only assume it was a stressful operation and the USB wireless Mouse got to be last priority for the processors.
If you were running more than just VDJ (like having your browser online) -- maybe you pushed your system too far without being aware of it.
It's never happened to me on gigs through. Just for chuckles, you might want to try plugging a good wired mouse in at home and put your stuff through a "torture test."

over the pad
Most of the mousepads are VERY sensible to sweat / humidity / water. Make sure your fingers are very dry before touching it, and eventually keep some towel near you to clean it frequently.

I am not using a usb mouse. I'm using the laptop integrated one. I'm under the impression that its probably the heat coming from the laptop (I'm on alienware) ""confusing"" the pad and making it unable to recognize my finger.

Yup, heat can probably alter the sensor too.

If your Alienware is getting that hot, that it's affecting the trackpad, you have another issue. This is not some bargain brand computer. I would first clean your hands and the pad with a pre-moistened eye glass wipe (I wear glasses so always have them). If that doesn't work, maybe the pad is on it's way out. If you think it's the heat, monitor it, and then have it repaired.

Have never found the onboard pad adequate enough to use as my regular everyday mouse not responsive enough, I use a track ball. Having said that the pad on your computer shouldn'd get that. I have two republic of gamer laptops and have never had that problem in fact I've use various brands in the 15yrs plus that I've been dj'ing with laptops and never had that problem. I would let your tech guy take a look at your computer, as stated alianware is high end equipment. Have you tried using external mouse. If that works with no issue then I woulk think the weak link in the chain is the pad.

Update drivers and make sure air vents have air going throughout them maybe bad fan or just dirty.
