To the OP, you posted this "Let's talk" and the laptop stand "let's talk". Do you need a friend? I'll shoot you my phone number if you need someone to talk to... ;-)

Lmao!! I don't think your that far away from actually, I'm over here in Iowa on the western side of the state. Next time I'm in Illinois I'll stop by :-)

As for my post I'm just tired of seeing useless info being posted and since this is the "General" forum and generally this is the complaint forum, lol!!

So I try to start topics that get people thinking and talking. So far I think its been good :-D

I'm reading a lot of good stuff here, and in Beatbreakers other thread. My image is a little tarnished, yes I have a minty laptop stand, but for how long LOL?
I find it interesting that both Beatbreaker, and Soulman ( laptop cooler! ) are a little uncomfortable about laptops, and video djing. They are the leaders in this area, and at some time in the future others will follow, including myself.

A well configured, mass produced, mid range laptop is likely to be a dj's most reliable piece of equipment.
Does that apply to the video dj ?

A little about the history of my laptop. It's old, maybe around 6 years. The cpu has been upgraded twice, which means the heat sink compound was renewed, and also the cooling system completely cleaned, not just an external vacuum cleaning of the vents.
Cpu Upgrade path. Celeron 2ghz --> Dual Core 2ghz --> Dual Core 2.4ghz. The replacement cpu's cost between £10 - £20 on ebay.

You may get a warning if overheating is becoming a problem, Windows may freeze, and a reboot may be forced.
If you can find a good techie then renewing the cpu heat sink compound, and internally cleaning the cooling system every 2 years might be a wise precaution. On some laptops this is only a 10 min. job.

One problem could be the electrolytes used in today's laptop's.
When they're aging, they cannot provide the proper filtering and keep up a good, stable, clean supply for the CPU. (due to ESR / ESL rise)
Those things worry me more than the quality of the CPU itself.
This has become better using polymer e-lytes, but still, everything is aging on the motherboard.
We are doing professional stuff here, people are paying us. We should really have a PC system "industry" class with highest reliability.

It's very nice to have a positive thread to share information in.

Iowa is about as far from me as Chicago. I've noticed there are a few Midwesterners on here.

Hm if it's made by Pioneer I probably couldn't afford it, or put another way, I would not pay the asking price.
I like the very affordable quality of Denondj which is now owned by the Numark group, and that might be good for us users.
If you compare the top of the range Denondj decks against Pioneer, then Denondj win hands down for quality. The Nexus 2000 is lightweight plastic with loads of flashing lights..
I concede that Pioneer are advancing the controller technology of our world, even if they are a bit big.

Mind you I don't have a great deal of money, and would not dream of going into debt for such items.
Cash on the nose is my game.

Give me a huge bag of money, and I may change my mind, no, I'd just get the best of Denon, and tell the world to piss off with it's marketed, and preconceived ideas of what is good.

I'm fed up seeing young, poor, and struggling dj's ripped off over the cost of equipment.

I have a Numark Mixdeck and it reads MP3's, CD's and runs on MIDI. I don't have a spare laptop as of yet but I have 2x 32gig USB sticks and a 1TB external HDD. If the Numark fails then I have a back up mixer that I get from my boss and have a 1/8th to RCA cable with me at all times. If the laptop fails then I can use the USB sticks and external but it takes forever to find a song. I have had the Mixdeck act funky here and there but I have gotten away with doing a power cycle and it goes back to normal. I have not had anything happen with the laptop as of yet but I also don't use it for anything but Djing. A few minor searches on the net but that's it. I'm not installing anything except VDJ Updates and windows updates.

Hi DJWrenocide, if your running windows 7 there is a app which does a good job of simply optimizing a computer for perfect VDJ performance, have you seen it?
Sorry for mentioning it if you already know.
I also disable stuff in the control panel like the modem.
You do need to be careful if you disable hardware.

That would be fun. Shoot me a PM. We'll grab a couple of beefs, drink some local craft beers and talk shop.

@Terry, We talking about "Hell or High WaterMelon", lol!! Always wanted to try that stuff 😜

@BigRon, neither of my machines are very new, my MacBook is a 2011 maxed out and my Asus is about 2 years old, lol!! I used to be worried about my laptop crashing or something bad happening to it but I've pretty much gotten over it. I will say like Phantom mentioned earlier, I am always mixing with a eye open on my machines because any crash I've had ( never live always at home and caused by me) my laptop will give me a sign and act strange. When something is about to go down I'll switch to my Denons or throw on a record then reboot and switch back to my laptop.

As for being a video Dj, no matter what the AUDIO comes FIRST!! Sure it sucks when you've mapped out a big stage and have to set down for a minute but as long as the audio is playing I could give a rats ass about the video, lmao!! And honestly the people are to busy dancing to watch the screens unless they've sent a shout out or posted a picture to Instagram. If the party is promoted as a video party more people will pay attention but for the most part it's the audio that counts.

@/DJWrenocide, yeah I had both the original MixDeck and the MixDeck Quad. I loved these units for all that they could for the amount of money. So easy to use and really didn't sound to bad on a big system. Actual still have my Quad in my basement somewhere, lol!!
