hi !
I am new in the forum and I am very happy to make part it.
I just started in VDJ8, but even if I have a some experience in music
recording, some shows here and there, I'm wondering a lot about "compatibility software/hardware".
I'm starting here from "zero" level, i'd like to perform in family partys, weddings and so on..
I would like to know what is the ideal equipment to start, VDJ8 compatibility
I already have my laptop ( that helps..) now, I need the two decks, the AUX console, the speakers , headset for cueing..
I planning to specialize my self in techno, pop, latin, regaeton, without forgetting the unforgettable 70,80,90s .
what is the minimum music library for a begginer ? I have only 2000 songs (wich is i think an average for anyone who just listens to music)
and the big question: what would be a good budget to begin?
Thanks for your replies

Budget, that all depends how long you can go without food (food or records, food or records, I can always eat next week:-) )
You're going about this the wrong way, you don't decide to be a dj and buy all the gear, just like I can't decide to be a F1 driver, you buy a cheap controller or tt's & mixer and practice (for fun!), buy music, make mix tapes and play them to anyone that will listen & buy music, if you're any good you'll then do house parties and maybe borrow/rent a decent amp & speakers & buy music. Then you look for a better a controller / tt's & mixer and start thinking "do I need a PA / light rig, or do I hook up with a sound system?"
Try crawling before buying $7000 running shoes, otherwise those shoes will be on ebay, because honestly some folk aren't cut out for it.
Best of luck though, keep an eye on the free-ads for bargains.

I'd recommend a cu subscription to supplement your 2000 songs.
That is far, far to little for your ambition..70s,80s,90s.
That will get you by.
Song quality is important, get rid of any low bitrate songs. Take 192kb/s as a minimum, and I throw them in the bin.
320 kb/s mp3 should be your objective, or lossless Flac.
I'm a Denon fan, it's all great value, and even cheaper second hand.
Mc6000 controller, or dns 1200 cdj's and your off on a low cost budget.
Of course if money is no object the Nexus2000, and a DDJ-SZ would suffice.
Your budget is important, I would not go into debt for any equipment.
I'd recommend a Peavey PA system, their not as good as they used to be, but I've always been able to match the PA of the groups, and artists with which I work.
It's important that they don't make you sound shit whilst you support them.
Good advice locodog "Best of luck though, keep an eye on the free-ads for bargains"
He could be a rich man's son?
Are you?

Thanks bigron1 :)
i will check that setup.
btw, 70, 80, 90s are not ambition, its just more options for more "costumer" choice.
unless those generations dont exist anymore.

I started mixing as a kid with my grandpas old turn tables I bought my 1st Digital controller about 5 years ago and have been a Happy user Of Virtual DJ ever since I have invested in lots of different equipment through the years replacing faulty or broken equipment as well as investing in new equipment... it is definitely a process if your on a budget but I would have to agree that you should start small just to see if its what you really want to do before you drop a lot of cash on anything as far as MUSIC i started out with about (5000-6000) songs in my database and have close to 750,000 now that don't include my videos I do weddings private parties corporate events and provide free services for Non-Profit / Charity Gigs... I love being a DJ!

the truth is that i had an "entertainment" life before, but for many reasons i'v put it aside
family reasons, kid reasons, job reasons...
I'm pretty sure i was a talented musician when i was young, but i just didnt know how to open the doors..
I play instruments, i read music, i have the rythm, i like all kinds of music, from 70,s to techno, dance, latin, rock, metal, jazz, classical.
I could either do my laundry while listening to ozzy, def leppard, darude, daft punk, bach, hayden..
I knew about virtual DJ years before, (i downloaded v5) but i knew i didnt have the time for it.
I'm in front of a PC screen 40hrs a week doing something that im kinda tired of it.
i can recycle myself into something else, i have the roots for it, i will not be a DJ for living, not know, who knows..
but one thing sure, this last weeks im having a lot of fun with it
so much that im starting to be attracted by some music styles that i didnt like before,
last saturday i recorded my first mixes, 4hrs of different mixes, poor quality, but the intention was there
i spent the whole day on it, went to bed, and couldnt sleep because i was thinking about what i could mix the next day..
so yes, i will jump on this, and i know i wont regret it, its an awakening.

Best of luck to you I too have Kids, Family, Full time Job but i still always find the time to peruse my passion and being able to continue to do what i love I really enjoy Most all music in general but the best part about being a DJ is making people dance having crowed control is Awesome but if you plan on doing gigs for profit then i would suggest purchasing a Pro Infinity License or at the least become a monthly subscriber

I'm with Locodog, you are eating too much, and stop feeding your kids everyday. Not eating everyday, will help them when the zombie apocalypse comes. I take a different approach, and say buy what you want, not what you can afford. You are only going to buy what you want later, after you realize that the cheaper controller does not allow you to grow. Why buy twice? The cheaper controller will also depreciate a lot quicker. If you find out that this is not for you, the better controller will have a higher resale value. I believe you know that you want to be a DJ, and have the passion for it, so go for it. My advice is to save your money, or charge the controller you want, taking into account the level that you want to be at in six months to a year. You will get more out of your controller. However, you have to be smart. I thought I wanted a Pioneer SZ, and bought the money to buy it this week in AC. After seeing how big it was, I had to reevaluate. It is way to big for my residency, meaning I would have to buy a second controller for the club. So do the research, and don't let money be your deciding factor.

haha, 1 I never pay for anything that is ever full price other then food and condoms. I think you need to relook at this. you wouldnt believe the amount of brand new second hand gear I see all the time. I shoped the pawn shop and got my controller for cheap. speakers too. Music is a different beast I have spent over 20 000 on music over the past 30 years .. now with digital its way more simple and cost effective. Now im buying music videos from extenda mix... what you want and what you need might work when you have money to burn. never burn off the start. Make the bar buy the gear and get them to upsdate it all the time..
