It's automatic. I had two installs because a bug was found and a newer version released but they may now have rolled it in to one.

well im not getting it...

not here yet...

People who enabled beta builds get it first, others will get it soon.

This thread can be removed.

So is 8.1 a beta or public build?. Would be good to know before putting it on my gig machine.

Beta

NO, it's not a beta.
It's a public build, released at first only at those who have selected to have access to early updates.
So, this is a public build that will go "live" for the rest users as well in a few days.

The fact it's only been released to those who had beta builds enabled has just caused confusion then.

In my profile I can't select if I want beta builds or not.
Is it just special vip users who can do that?

Not that I am very keen on testing, I am quite happy with build 2453.

There are no more public betas. That's why the option is gonne.

So why not just release it to everyone then?

It will be soon......

So 8.1 is not a beta or a public beta....and yet here in this thread it's been stated that:

It's a public build
Those who've enabled beta builds got it first

To me that adds up to a public beta. Otherwise why has this "public" version come through via the beta option?

:-/

That's exactly what confused me. Mind you, that's not too difficult ......

Its simple really.....

getBetaBuilds changes in 8.1 to earlyAccessBuild
The reason you need getBetaBuilds active in 8.0 to get to 8.1 is because you obviously need to update for the wording to change.

8.1 has been beta tested by an internal team of testers and is ready to go public. But it never hurts to have a few more users take a look first.
earlyAccess is for users who want to have the newset version straight away and perhaps want to test it more.

As you know, as long time users - full releases usually happen after the weekend. I see this being no different.

So to clarify the earlyAcessBuild is NOT a beta.

Thanks for the explanation Dan.

So the beta option on the forum is gone, there is now one option in the software per machine.

Think about it like Deferred Windows updates on Win 10. You may not want to install it on day 1 if your performance is critical, because any change can bring un planned and un desired results for someone.

One of the reasons I am not interested in Win 10 anymore. Updates are eminent, I have Pro and can defer them but I want to be 100 % in control for a wedding or other critical event.
