Topic: Nightmare gig!!! Must stop playing Agadoo!!!

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Had the gig from Hell 10 days ago.

It was a Fashion Show auctioning ballroom dresses to raise money for a Cancer Charity. The crowd turned out to be the posh, snobbish, public schoolboy, fox hunting type. They borrowed my Sure SM58 mic to do the auction. The (drunk) auctioneer was slapping my microphone with a clipboard every time he sold a dress! I shouted at him to stop doing it several times. When he finished he just dropped my microphone on the dance floor and walked away!!! My microphone now has two sides of the globe windshield flattened!!! As you can imagine I was raging, I've had this mic for over 20 years with not a mark on it.

By the time I got started at 11pm everyone was mostly drunk and just went nuts on the dance floor. One very drunk girl fell against my speakers knocking them completely over against the ballroom wall damaging the plaster, luckily they are sturdy plastic cabinets. Then during the last song the duty manager came up to me and said when the song is finished come out into the car park as they have smashed my van windscreen!!! Being a laminated screen, it was like a spiders web right in front of the drivers eyeline. I had to leave the van overnight and get a lift home (I live 17 miles away).

The Police were called and apparently the culprit was caught running across a nearby field in his tuxedo with his hand bleeding. He spent the night in the cells. Next morning when he had sobered up he owned up to what he had done and was very apologetic and offered to pay for all the damage. I'm expecting to get reimbursed for fitting a new windscreen + some extra compensation for all the inconvenience he caused. Apparently he had a big bust up with his girl/partner/wife or whatever she is and just lost it. Never had this trouble in 38 years working in the nightclubs and would never expected this sort of behaviour at a Cancer Charity gig in an Hotel.

Got reimbursed for the replacement windscreen plus a bit extra for the inconvenience today. Didn't have to involve the insurance company. :-)

Welcome to mobile life, you have bouncers at clubs don't you!

They normally can afford to pay for their mischief !
Down market they might mug you, give me posh every time.
I've worked for everybody.
I'm just about alive, and kicking.

I caught a speaker going over on NYE, it's getting to be a problem. It was falling on someone as well. Drunks, and druggies are trouble. The guy who almost knocked the speaker over was harmless, except to himself. Maybe our speakers should be drop tested.

The SM58 are tough.
You should have a good chance of repairing the dented head, if not you can buy a new one.
Respect to the battle hardened Shure SM58.

People reading this may laugh but it works! push the mic dome onto a wooden broom shank and work the shape back in... no charge, lol.

It does work !
The tool does not need to be a broom handle, but it must fit into the dome, and have a spherical end. Possibilities are screwdrivers, socket set ratchets, hammer handles etc.

...or you could buy a new one (mesh grille) for a few quid - there are even coloured ones!

no no no no no no NO! old school states... why replace, when you can fix it yourself... first rule of the tight gits club.

I have had luck with people not smashing my gear, but some refreshed lads have fallen through tables and such. Smashed beer glass and other common stuff.
Mobile life is though LOL

No, I'm not mobile, it's an Hotel where I'm resident. Normally do weddings and a few band nights/corporate functions. They don't employ bouncers, not even NYE. The only time is when we do School Proms.

I'm in the tight gits club and gonna do the broom handle trick lol.
