Mute the song that's playing. Like using the effect AutoCut, but I want to trigger the cuts myself. I don't use the Sample Pads for samples. I map them to effects.

If it's simpler to map than yes, mute the master output.

I mapped it to Audio Cut8 with length 1/2 and it sounds great.

Have a try with the slip brake8 effect, playing with longer pause lengths, and tapping on and off in durations shorter than the pause length,
