Topic: New Laptop Spec Debate - Page: 1

Questa parte dell'argomento è obsoleta e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate

I am debating about buying one of 2 laptops. One has windows 10 as a new install and not an upgrade. Those specs are: HP ProBook 455 G3 AMD Quad-Core A10-8700P 1.80GHz Notebook PC - 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 15.6" LED HD, AMD Radeon R6 Graphics.

The second computer has the specs of Lenovo ThinkPad E560 20EV - dual-Core i7 6500U / 2.5 GHz - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - 8 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD - DVD-Writer - 15.6" IPS 1920 x 1080 ( Full HD ) - Radeon R7 M370 - 802.11ac

Which would you guys choose to go with. I have never really worked much with AMD lines. Always have been Intel.

Personally I would go with the Intel and Windows 7. Others may disagree but windows 10 is garbage for many reasons.

If I get Win 7 on the first one would you still do the Intel over AMD?

you can upgrade that Win 7 pro to Win 10 pro (do it before expires). Then go back to Win 7 if you want.

Yup, Intel all day but that's just my personal preference.

What I'm about to say is a generalization, but true more often than not.

For a home machine, I prefer the price points on AMD computers. For business use, I prefer Intel machines.

AMD components cost less than Intel components (usually about half to 3/4). So, if the computer you are looking at is $600, and you see an AMD computer and an Intel computer at that price point, the AMD in most cases will be the more powerful and feature rich. This is because of the cost difference in components.

If I were you though, I'd buy the Intel. If you are trying to save money, an i5 would do very well for you too. i3 is a little under-powered and an i7 is probably more than you have to have. However, I always recommend to my customers to buy the most powerful laptop that they can afford since they aren't really upgradeable aside from a few parts. Not usually the processor. So, getting a more powerful machine now will last you longer as new features and capabilities come out.

If it was a desktop computer, I'd advise getting one for a decent price with decent specs over power.

As far as Windows 10 vs. Windows 7 goes, I'd do as suggested above. Either get Win10 now, or get the Win7 machine, upgrade to Win10, wait a week or so, then reinstall Win7.

Personally, I don't see anything at all wrong with Windows 10 and has been rock solid for my customers, family, and I.

Good luck and let us know if you need more info.

Everybody here knows my motto, Go BIG OR GO HOME, lmao!!

I'm with Keith and AMAHM on this, I have a ton of things running and the moment my machine can't handle it......ITS GONE, PERIOD!!

Been using VDJ for about 10 years roughly and have yet to have a crash live. I dont do anything to my machines and I mean absolutely NOTHING!! I buy it go home and download VDJ and a few other programs and I'm off and running.

I too also never have a backup (I dont advise this) because I have spent hours beyond hours testing and pushing the limits so when its game time, its on.

But yeah in the end you use what works for you or what you can afford.

what you can afford

This is the critical point, if you have the spare money then why not treat yourself to a top of the range laptop?
However on a constrained budget the recommended VDJ requirements will suffice.
It's the users choice.

I would always go a bit over the minimum. At least to recommended. A little higher is better. Gives you a little "Head room".

I won't comment on the OS thing.
For CPU though it's always recommended to get an Intel CPU instead of AMD.
The reason is that several device drivers (and some other software you may need/use as a dj) have incompatibilities with AMD chipsets.

Appears Intel Core i7-6950X is top of the line right now for about 1600-2000 dollars just for the CPU... Things change so fast these days might be interesting to see how long it takes for this chip to become just so so... Recently needed to do an upgrade on computer and went from i7 820 to i7 2600 which is effectively a little more than twice as fast... more than just an upgrade, it is another almost new computer and cost of computer was 511 dollars US. Small footprint tower.

I would not get either of those machines. AMD is just not in the running for me. I don't have any personal experience with it, then again, I don't know anyone that does. The dual core is dated to me. We are talking about the core of your arsenal. I am serious when I say "get what you want and need, not what you can afford". We are not talking about a car or a house. We are talking about $1200 to $2000. Do carpenters buy $2.00 hammers from the dollar store? Which one of you is going up on the roof with the $10.00 16ft extension ladder? Either wait until you have the money, or charge it, but do not buy a wimpy machine just because that is all you can afford. You don't have to get this years top of the line, but I always buy last years top of the line. This is a big boy sport, buy the equipment that will give you peace of mind.

Moderated your post because it was irrelevant, full of it, and did not offer anything intelligent to the subject.

Good computer managmement skills are much more important than the type of laptop you have, what are you..laptop salesmen?

You can't even argue your case.
Pathetic.

No, but I'm smart enough to know that you don't put a hot iron on a plastic shower curtain. I will not argue with you because I don't have to.

Moderated for being irrelevant.

You are the poorest moderater I have ever encountered.
I think it's because you try to be smart.

Can't you ban Ron for the personal attacks??

I am the one being insulted.
Repeat referances to a shower curtain and iron are way off topic, and personal.
AMAHM is a disgrace to moderating.
