I thought I'd start a quick poll, to ask you guys what set-up(s) you use when playing out in bars, clubs etc, and how much of a compromise this is versus what you'd really like to be using.
Perhaps you're using a small controller due to the space available in small booths, and would rather be using a large controller that'd be easier to scratch on, perhaps you're using old CDJs in timecode and you'd rather newer models so you can utilize HID mode.
I'm planning my next mobile rig for venues which don't have their own gear, and trying to find an ideal compromise between size, portability and quality, of course I've been spoilt in the past where I've had a top of the range Pioneer nexus setup to play with, but whatever mobile alternatives I consider, I always feel there's a compromise.

I guess for me it depends on how lazy I am that day ;-p
My ideal setup is turntables, mixer and a DDJ SP1. I feel right at home on that setup and its always a blast.
If I don't wanna drag out my tt's ill use my Denon 5500's. Not quite as big or heavy as a tt but still has that rotating platter plus I have 4 decks at my disposal.
I love cdjs in HID mode but they just don't feel right so I wont really scratch to much. It'll be a blend all night type of night.
And if I just want to get in and out as fast as possible ill use my Denon MC4000. Its been a solid little unit and I actually bought for one specific gig I do. The both is so that I couldn't use cdjs even out of the flight cases.
Probably not the answer your looking for but I like having choices depending on my mood or style ill be playing on any given night.
I've used my SP1 so much that when I tried a controller like the SX I just couldn't get comfortable with the placement of the pads down below. It was a real struggle and I've pretty swore off using anything like that again, lmmfao!!
Lets use know what you end up rolling with for sure though.

I use both the MC6000Mk1 & DDJ-SP1
It is literally the ideal setup, quality of the Denon mics and mixer coupled with the pad support on the Pioneer.
I use the same setup whether it's on top of a dining table or in a big club like last night.
Can't see how it could be improved unless Denon released a smaller MCX8000 as it's just far too big to be carried about from gig to gig and too large for many DJ boxes. There is a smaller one coming out without the screens but it's still too big for me.

I loved my MC6000 when it was new, but after an insane amount of use the hardware mixer died, and I now use it as a 2 deck controller and relegate all mixing to a DJM900, which worked well for a time as the DJM is a joy to mix on with its FX and spaciousness, however I'm pushing my luck with the Denon now the buttons are sticking, often causing me to miss a beat. As this unit has been discontinued I'm weighing up a larger all in one vs a similar small controller to continue using with the DJM.
