I'm thinking of getting a new laptop, I was looking at the ASUS ROG GL502VM-DS74 (specs below). I know its good specs but will be good for extensive video work? I have had terrible experiences with my macbook pro and video so really want to err on the side of caution. Is it really worth the extra money for the ROG GL502VS with the GTX1070 video card?
7th Gen i7 processor
16GB RAM
1TB + 128GB SSD Storage
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video card
Windows 10
Also while looking into PCs (I have historically used macs for dj'ing), I am learning that they come with an on-board intel video card and the Nvidia only kicks in when needed. Is there anyway to turn that off and use the Nvidia card by default (especially for the HDMI output)?
thanks

VDJ video on windows will work even on on-board intel it is optimized so well. I output HD video all night on some gigs with no issues at all, and that's with a Yoga 2 Pro (Intel HD Graphics 4400)
I've never been a Mac fan and to be honest their machines have always been inferior to similarly priced Windows ones, and even more so now.
IMO, you don't need a dedicated card to output video (the on-chip cards are far better these days) however I would still suggest i7 Intel as the processor though. The ROG series are good machines and a few guys on here use them.

Thanks for that. Just for my own knowledge though, its is possible to disable the intel chip and use the Nvidia as the default?

I think it can be done either universally in BIOS or on a per program basis within Windows however each manufacturer implements it a different way.
Maybe one of the guys with a ROG will be able to chime in.
That's a really nice machine and a hell of a lot cheaper and better than the current Macbook Pro models.

I have the GL702VM with the 1060GTX. The intel video card is disabled by default in the bios so it only uses the Nvidia one unless you dig into the bios and change it. I output HD to two monitors all night long without issue.
