Hey hive intelligence.

So after a bit of time seeing how I enjoyed integrating a volca beat, keys and bass into my setup I have decided that the latter don't suit me, but I want more drums and vocal samples to work with.

Subsequently I'm looking into a Novation launchpad mini, and a pair of Behringer CMD Dv-1's

The notion is that I'll use the launchpad with a DAW (either FL studio which I'm passingly familiar with having used it back when it was called Fruity Loops; or Ableton Live) to function as a 32 step drum sequencer, and 32 step vocal sample trigger. This will at first use my Volca beats and the DAWs built in drum sounds, but ultimately I'd like to add some more drum synths in as the hardware (imho) has a great hands on feel and oldschool sound.

The DV-1s will be so that I can comfortably use 3 filters on left and right decks. Extra buttons are probably a bit pointless as I've already got tons on my MC7000, but I cannot find a controller which is just a bunch of (non infinite) pots/knobs.

I need help!

Is anyone running a similar sort of setup? What I want to be able to do is play a mix of deep house, techno and progressive, and layer beats over that, throw some filtered vocals in. All live. Lots of fun!

If you don't want to trigger the samples and beats in VDJ, how do you plan to keep VDJ and Ableton or VDJ and FL Studio in sync?

That would be my first concern, and I would get that figured out with just the software, before buying any additional hardware

I know that VDJ can comminicate with other software, but as far as I know it currently insists on being the master

I don't want to trigger the samples and beats in VDJ because
1) I want to sequence beats and change them on the fly
2) I want to filter the samples

I've tried just the pure 32 step sequencer element with used it with FL Studio so far.

VDJ does master Midi clock, which is what you need, and when you start playing it triggers the DAW to start. So in that sense, yes it works.

Using an akai apc mini is wonderful with vdj for samples and great with Abelton live.

Maybe not what you want I didn't realize you want to use vdj and DAW together.

Cool. I just wanted to make sure you had thought about that :)

Hrmm, that Akai looks like it may be a better choice than the novation because of the faders.

Yeah I want to use them together. So my experience using VDJ's sampler is that it's a bit limited. Press play, Press stop.

I want to be able to trigger samples and run them through filters and change up songs. For example toss a classic rift into a minimal techno set, throw some filtered volcals over the top. Add some cowbell (always needs more cowbell). On a step sequencer.

Thus I thought I need to go the route of using a DAW
