I just wanted to show moving wallpaper/ screensaver stuff when I am not showing karaoke.
Do I have to assign a new skin to every song for this or will it do this randomly for me?

No, you can use the visualization features
Here is an example using milkdrop, but you may as well use the new Shaders visualization feature

I dont use the full features of Virtual DJ and so I am missing out. I turned on Shader from the drop down box on my screen but nothing happened.
I guess I will have to download an add on to see visual effects.... either Milkdrop or Shader Toy ( although I cant find Shader Toy anywhere )

Shader is part on the new vdj 2018 version and is not a separate plug in.
Sometimes with such a powerful piece of software you need to take time and step back from how you normally use it amd explore and train yourself on new features.
I did this yesterday foe a couple of hours before i loaded up for my gig
You will get real benefit from it
