I accidently switched from vdj8 to vdj21 it seems I have lost all my playlists and was wondering if I can reverse this as there are years of lists just gone, any help is greatly appreciated...

21 update [21 is just another v8.X update] wouldn't delete playlists, maybe you don't have them visible
try browser options > root elements > reset root folders
