Forum: VirtualDJ Skins

Topic: A teaser, and more..
It was the same day I released my last skin (GTS-2K21) that I forked it and started tweaking a few aspects of it closer to my own personal needs and taste.
So, after almost 4 years, it has become a completely different skin.

It looks and feels like GTS-2K21 (since a lot of code derives from it) but it's different.

Since this was a personal project there are a few bits here and there that are not 100% polished yet, and most imortantly a few ideas that have been left unfinished.
I decided that it was about time to release this skin before I find myself starting messing with a new one :P

So, if you are willing to help me finish and release this skin, please let me know.
I need people that have creative ideas, but:
1) Will respect the theme of the skin and
2) Will understand the limitations of what a skin can or can't do.

I will prioritize people that I know from these forums, or people that I feel that really want to USE the skin.
Please understand that I'm 100% capable to finish this on my own. I don't need "test" users. I need users that can take it, use it, love it, and come back with recommendations and if needed constructive critisim.
In the past I gave out "beta" versions of my skins, only to see my code used on other unofficial skins that people paid for  a few days later.
I'm not after that anymore.

So, if you like what you see and you want to get involved (but I mean really get involved) leave a reply and let's see how it goes.

Thanks!

PS: The skin is 100% useable on all views (layouts) and 100% stable. Just to be clear!

Hi George. Are you still using DDJ-RZ as your main controller? Is the skin designed for use with the RZ, with maybe some custom RZ mapping to integrate RZ with the skin, or is the skin more open/generic?

I see quite a lot of abbreviations used. RTS, ODM, PRP, SBX, APL - are they explained in tooltips?

My skins were always more generic, rather than controller oriented.
That being said, some views (like the Display view that has a lot more abbreviations) are more controller oriented. In other words, "Display" view is as a view that's missing most of the stuff that a typical controller already has on it. So, you can say that this view is controller oriented.
Same rule applies for GLA view, which is not 100% finished as there's more than meets the eye there.
But the rule of thumb is that it's for use with controllers.

Now all elements, including those with abbreviations are explained through tooltips.
Most of them should be quite easy to remember too once you see the tooltip once.
RTS: Real Time Separation (of stems) with "HIGH, LOW, OFF, PREP and ODM" being the possible values you see next to it, which are self explanatory I believe.
But either way the menu itself though doesn't use abbreviations. And if you click "On Demand" on the menu, then it's easy to remember what ODM stands for.
PRP: Prepare Mode
SBX: Sandbox
APL: Auto Pitch Lock

PS: I don't use RZ anymore. However I use 2 or 3 other controllers depending the needs of the gig I'm doing.
Therefore I designed the skin to "automatically" adapt as much as possible to the different needs of different gear, and all the job we're doing when mapping new controllers.
For instance, in the default "ALL IN ONE" view, there are buttons that show you whether the EQ knobs are going to control stems or frequency, and they mirror the operation of RANE FOUR, RANE PERFORMER, DDJ-REV7 e.t.c.
You can use the buttons freely, no matter if you have the mentioned gear or not.
And if you have, you just see on screen your operation mode seamlessly.

Nice!! I have used your Vector skin since it came out and no plans on switching any time soon :-p

Always so good!!

The director's cut, Very nice work "busy looking" but when it's your skin function is the most important bit.

I gotta say, thats a sexy looking skin!

I would love to check it out/help testing/give suggestions because I really liked the original - feel free to send me a PM for it.

I found a glitch...

With any view other than Video, If I have Empty Buttons enabled, then when I enable the VID option there's a grey line through the entire video area (the grey line that shows below the empty buttons).

looks really nice i am still using your silversleak 3 skin because it has features i cant find in another skin :-)

@Groovin thanks, found and fixed.
@Wickedmix It would be nice to let me know which features you can't find elsewhere. Generally speaking I don't remove features from my skins, but maybe it's something I thought no-one used ?

well as of now this new one is really nice 2 things i am missing maybe i cant find them not sure

a way to display user 1 or user 2 of the database on line 3 of the decks

and a master fx dropdown menu

i may discover more as i mess with it thanks for listening :-)

Line 3 options have been added, thanks for the suggestion.

For masterFX I'll see what I can do. Perhaps place it on top bar ?
Is it ok if it's on top bar next to master volume and VU ?

(Not sure if this is in the vision for the skin or it's there and not obvious to me) but I miss having an option to have scratch waveforms (yes I like minimum vertical performance like skins).

Direct display/access to Master FX is a big one too (as @wickedmix already said), as often I have to use LoudMax or an EQ when playing alongside Serato users.

Having direct access to a broadcast button may be helpful for streamers/radio broadcasters too.

It might also be nice if the video rack displayed previews for left and right decks if not using the video version of the skin.

Still exploring here as well (just got home and trying it out).

sounds like a perfect spot thank you :-)

what is the action poi used for

Action POI panel may have to "leave" (made private)
It's just a way that I (and a few friends / other users of this forum) use to toggle the execution of action POIs on/off.

Generally speaking, action POIs are always executed.
Therefore, I have programmed all my action POIs to use the following script var_equal 'ExecMacro' 1 ? DO THIS
So, the actual action will or will not get executed based on the value of the 'ExecMacro' variable.

Therefore the Action POIs panel on the top just shows / toggles the 'ExecMacro' variable state for the 4 decks.

@DJ VinylTouch:
Right click on main video window and select "Dual-Source Mixing" (instead of "Simple video")
It should present you the video preview of the left/right decks.
The behavior is similar to how the default PRO skin works: If simple video mixing is active, you have jogs on deck, while if "dual source" is active, you have previews instead.

So the video rack on this skin follows the same logic.
PS: Video Rack is meant as a quick way to display something out of VirtualDJ.
If you are heavy to Video Mixing, then the Video Layout is a much better solution I think.

Finally:
I'm not sure about vertical scratchwaves. I mean, the skin only uses scratchwaves, but horizontal ones. I don't know if it would make sense to have vertical as well.
Especially in a skin that tries to have short decks in order to leave as much room as possible for the browser.
I can try to provide an option, but I make no promises at this point.

so i have played around with the action poi thingy and i say keep it for sure ... i know its not for everyone but i use many action poi and this is brilliant thank you.

Very Nice-looking skins for sure. I use the old (GTS-2K21) ever since it came out and can't wait to give the New Teaser a Spin. Congrats Phantom.!!!
