Topic: Virtual DJ compatible DMX software
Though I can't find any results, I'm asking you guys. Lightbuddy Active, any chance to beatsync with Virtual DJ?

I've been using SoundSwitch, works great for a regular setup. But when it comes to Ledbars en multichannel washers the scripting isn't giving anything spectaculair like I can create on my Wolfmix in a few seconds. Wolfmix even syncs up with Virtual DJ. But it's MK1 is only offering one coulour chase and one effect.. The MK2 offers some more I believe.

Before Wolfmix and SoundSwitch I've been using Freestyler, which actually worked and synced well most of the time. The downside; movingheads don't move as smooth as SoundSwitch made them move. Like the movement wasn't finished between 2 steps when BPM was too quick and when too slow.. the movement was finished and movement stopped until the next step. And I'm aware, Ledbars would be a lot of work creating nice chases, like with the Wolfmix.

I did a quick search and I think Lightbuddy Active offers some creative functionallity, but I'm sure there must be more smart apps / software.. Hooke me up!!

What do you guys use together with Virtual DJ?

How deep the rabbit hole are you willing to go ? (And most importantly how much $$$ are you willing to spend ?)

I use Showxpress. Lighting consists of two Chauvet 140SR Hybrid heads, two Equinox vortex heads, four Equinox Spectrapix lithium battens and four Chauvet freedom sticks.

The interface is a bit clunky but it works well triggering commands from custom buttons in VDJ and of course the beat is synced too.

Had Showxpress since 2019 and no issues. Just works as it should.

Thanks!! I'm using some Chauvet products right now. I think SoundSwitch does a really great job with the Gigbar. Lots of variety when scripting. I'm performing most of the time (sax and vocal) so no hands left for controllers. What I don't like about SoundSwitch, it's too flashy. Strobes can be turned off, but still then it's not as smooth as when I alow the wolfmix to create a chase.

I believe SoundSwitch is the only DAW style, and completely automated software out there.. Actually what I'm looking for.
As explained I want to use it with multicell RGB bars / Blinders. And results when scripting are so ugly and useless I decided to not let it control these fixtures.
How does ShowXpress perform with these kind of fixtures? For example, this is a video I made with some ledbars. Took me literally a few minutes to create some chases. https://youtube.com/shorts/AZdQDyjbNA4
Creating this kind of smoothness is impossible in SoundSwitch. Need to edit every channel (and there's 48 sections on these fixtures) individual. There's some copy and paste, functionalitiy but as an experienced DAW user, SoundSwitch is rather clumsy to my experience.
Wolfmix offers some simple tools / fx., and lets you create something interesting on the fly... where SoundSwitch offers somewhat presets.. but generally all look boring.

Will have a look at ShowXpress.. thanks!

Considering the amount of time and backup solutions I had to spent money on using SoundSwitch, I 'm even prepared to go the MagicQ route. I know the controller unlocks most of the functionality compared to the 'free' version. As explained above. a DAW style DMX program like SoundSwitch would be awesome, but it's quite unique I believe.
The program I mentioned in my OP 'Lightbuddy Active' looks great to. But using a DAW to play my music I perform with, would be too much hassle. I finally have Virtual DJ stable.. And SoundSwitch has been running for most of the time, after deleting some fixtures that got corrupted somehow through a few updates of the programm.

After all the troubles with SoundSwitch I'm prepared to pay way more than this programm ever cost me.. so much time wasted. But on the other side for a simple setup (without multi RGB cell stuff, bars / blinders) , there's not much of a choice as a performer who can't give attention to a controller.

I used Freestyler, which should give me POI and trigger chases. As explained, don't want to go back this route, and this isn't offering effects either, it's basicly programming each step of a chase. And there is some Copy and Paste fucntionality.

I downloaded MagicQ and will have a look at the free version.

On a different forum for music production, someone wanted to use QLC+. It's freeware, and due to that factor I'm always a bit holding it off. But this looks really interesting for the purpose I want to use (Multi RGB fixtures)

Edit: OMG, this video is like 10 year old. Lol..

I only use SoundSwitch on my Prime Go+ standalone with the spectrapix battens. It's a horrible program that is unnecessarily complex (if you don't just want lights flashing everywhere) and I've wasted so much time getting absolutely nowhere.

Haha.. you nailed exactly the way I feel about SoundSwitch.

After I found QLC+ and convinced by some of the RGB matrix stuff shown in the video, I found it's kind of compatible with Virtual DJ. That's really a pre. Have you ever tried this program? Locodog has developped some stuff which makes it kind of compatible to alow POI. Something I never got to work with Freestyler. I don't think it's quite as handy, but I'm prepared to invest some time in this and programm my tracks I perform with.
I do think QLC+ looks more alive than Freestyler. I saw some smooth moves with moving heads. Something I found to be impossible with Freestyler..
Best thing I ever achieved was in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gehF8cUcSYA
loads of work, which something SoundSwitch does better for sure. Freestyler doesn't calculate movement speed between steps.. it's just the default speed you programmed. So when the BPM is too high movement looks much different. Hope you get what I mean.. :-)

Tried QLX+ but couldn't get my DMX interface to work. I had to install Freestyler to check if it was broken, but it worked perfect over there. Seems not compatible with QLX+. I think I want to go for this program. Ordered a DMX interface which supports 2 universes..

I just had a look in Freestyler. I knew there where some options for led matrix in it.. and got it to work. But QLX+ seems to have much more possibilities.
