Topic: Problem with controller detection
Hey I need some help.

I have a Hercules Dj4Set controller that i've been using with Virtual Dj on two different computers for a while without any major issues. But now all of a sudden Virtual Dj can't detect my controller on one of my computers. (it works fine on the other)

The audio works tho, I get sound both to my speakers and my headphones through the controller but none of the controlls work and it's not showing up in the controller menu.

I have tried everything i can think off.

Checked that my licence is active and payed for.
Tried all different usb ports.
Checked for driver updates.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the controller.
Checked for errors in the device manager.
Removed any mappers.
Made sure there was no interference with any other midi/audio devices.
And even unistalled Virtual Dj, removed all files and then reistalled everything, and it 's still not showing up in the controller menu.
Now im stuck and i have no idea how to proceed. Anyone know what the problem might be?

The famous Windows 11 update midi issue?

@Devs/Staff/Mods maybe you can pin a post talking about that issue to the top of the Tech Support and General forum sections?

@djdad just a thought as a best effort - you guys did it for the major releases and features (e.g. VDJ 2026) and knowledge sharing.

Gentlemen, the sad part about all this... Virtual DJ forums are really the only place to get some sort of answers for this issue. Further, this forum is really the only one that's giving answers on this as well. I truly thank all that's helped myself and others to overcome this issue when its not a VDJ problem. The forum at Rane is silent (except one post) and MS is blaming InMusic drivers. MS says: "The driver itself has an issue we cannot work around in the MIDI stack". I cannot speak about the OP's controller issue but is seems so similar to InMusic. Make me wonder if the Hercules drivers are the same type as InMusic. What I know is I feel like we are caught in the middle between MS and InMusic / Hercules on this. I would like to see a procedure that uninstalls their MIDI 2.0 and restores the previous MIDI implementation Windows had without Windows Update re-installing it.

Heres the MS post about the InMusic (and others) drivers being a problem for MIDI 2.0: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/windows-music-dev/windows-midi-services-rollout-known-issues-and-workarounds/

(This is why I said standalone is the future sighs).
This is the unfortunate reality of a general purpose OS being used for DJing (which is pretty much centric) - The OS maker decides to make a change that they see benefit for but not think of the repercussions properly, a fire breaks out when they break things, then the blame game starts.

I do think that the VirtualDJ forums are excellent for this type of information, and this community is one of the major selling points of using VirtualDJ itself, because the desire isfor everyone to help to try to find a solution or a fix for problems while still trying to maintain honesty about the state of the product itself.

Thank you guys, that did the trick. To bad i uninstalled everything before i got the right answer, lost all my mappings and hotcues and such.

Again, DJ VinylTouch and DJDAD, thanks for being patient enough to assist us when we know this is NOT a VDJ problem and you guys really didn't have to. I would say this one of the many reasons I moved over to Virtual DJ in the first place.
