Summary:

The user is experiencing an audio distortion issue with VirtualDJ and a Roland DJ-707M controller after installing the latest VirtualDJ update (all drivers are up to date).

Behavior: When Automix is disabled, tracks play normally. However, when Automix is turned on, the beginning of every song plays very slowly with heavy crackling and distortion for about 10 seconds before returning to normal speed and clear audio.

Impact: The issue prevents smooth, seamless Automix transitions.

Request: They are asking if anyone knows the correct settings to fix the audio glitch, or if other Roland DJ-707M users can share screenshots of their VirtualDJ audio settings.

1. Adjust VirtualDJ Latency Settings
When Automix triggers, VirtualDJ performs real-time time-stretching (pitch/BPM matching) and automatic crossfading simultaneously. If the audio buffer is too low, the CPU drops audio frames, causing crackling, pitching down, and stuttering for the first few seconds of a track transition.
Open VirtualDJ Settings>Audio. Locate the Latency setting. Change it from Auto or Low (e.g., 256 samples / 5ms) to 512 samples (10ms) or 1024 samples.Click Apply.

2. Configure Roland ASIO Settings
If Windows default audio or standard WASAPI is overlapping with the Roland driver, it will cause severe buffer underruns during processing-heavy tasks like Automix transitions.
Under VirtualDJ Settings>Audio, ensure your Soundcard driver is explicitly set to Roland DJ-707M ASIO (not WASAPI or DirectSound).Click the ASIO button next to the driver selection to open the native Roland DJ-707M Control Panel.Increase the Buffer Size / Frame Size inside the Roland ASIO panel by one or two notches (e.g., up to 512). Important Windows Step: Open Windows Sound Settings and ensure your PC’s internal speakers/sound card are set as the Default Playback Device, not the Roland DJ-707M. This prevents Windows background apps from sharing and conflicting with the Roland ASIO channel.

3. Adjust Keylock / Time-Stretching Algorithm
If VirtualDJ updated its pitch engine (e.g., SoundAcoustics or Stem-aware time stretching), extreme BPM jumps during Automix will force the CPU to drastically pitch down and warp audio at the start of a song.
Go to VirtualDJ Settings> Options. Search for keylockEngine or pitchQuality. If it is set to High Quality or Advanced, try setting it to Standard or Fast.
Check automixTempoMatch: Set it to Smooth or BPM Only so VirtualDJ isn't forcing huge, extreme tempo shifts on incoming tracks that exceed your deck's pitch range limit.

4. Check Stems / Real-Time Processing Settings
If Automix is set to perform Stem transitions (e.g., fading out drums while fading in vocals), real-time stem extraction heavily taxes the GPU/CPU right at the start of the mix.
Go to VirtualDJ Settings> Options. Search for automixTransition. Temporarily set it to standard Fade or Crossfade instead of Stem-based transitions to see if the crackling stops.

5. Clear VirtualDJ Audio Cache / Reset Options
If an update corrupted local settings: Go to VirtualDJ Settings>Audio. Click the X / Reset icon next to Sample Rate and Latency to return them to default hardware values. Restart VirtualDJ and power-cycle the Roland DJ-707M.
