is it a 3 prong plug?
Use a 2 prong adapter if so...

using an external hard drive?

What usb devices are plugged in also ? I got a bad hum from my cable modem through usb.

I will try the 2 prong adapter. Yes I use a external hard drive but it does the same with it or not.The only other usb device is my mouse.

The 2 prong adapter worked thanks. Do you know y this is?

It's a grounding issue.

@audio000

The problem is called a "ground loop" and is caused by the power supply circuit design of the new laptop. I had the same issue with my new laptop which was the same HP brand as my previous laptop which never had the problem.

Here is the solution : http://www.xitel.com/product_gli.htm

I don't think it's a good idea to run on 2 prong without proper ground.

Thanks for the "solution" ;-)

I use the same filter "homemade" by a friend, and it's the best !
