hello I'm a new member is there a way to take away the beat but keep the singing going?

no its virtually impossible!
 
Well, you could buy another piece of software, like CoolEdit or something, and play around with a grafical equaliser, with as much bands as possible, and try to cut out the right lower-frequencies. A highpassfilter could be useable too.

You also can try to get an acapella version of the song, so only the lyrics are played.

There is a VSTi plugin called "Voice Remover" that handles removing voice. Just search Google for it..
