I searched the forum and can't find much on the topic. Should this box be checked or not? What exactly is it for? I think video is running better for me unchecked. Does anyone else find that. Less resources are being used overall. Depanding on the format of the video. MPEG 1 at only 6% usage. MPEG2 at about 24%. Of course it jumps when loading for a sec. Please let me know your configuartions to compare.

Not for nothing, but I don't see that box. Is this in VDJ 3.1? If so where?

It is in the video options of 3.1. Not sure if it's in 3.0 or not. Don't remember. Really can't figure out what it is for.

it keeps processing video even when the display is not up to stop CPU usage spikes (im guessing) when it gets turned off or on (it keeps decoding video in the background wheather its on or off)

With the box unchecked and my 64 bit system 1 gig ram:
One video running in MPEG1 bet 7-14% resources. Loading a second video MPEG1 spikes to 60% then back to 7-8%. Playing 2 videos MEPG1 12%. MPEG2 run around 24%.
Checking the box. Same video MPEG1 runs at 27% resources. Same two videos spike to 40%, MPEG2 runs around 5%.. DOn't get it...
I guess the conclusion is leave it checked? I don't really understand it at all. Can any support people make it clearer which optimizes a system best, or does the button matter?

Well it's written in the new french user guide: use "decode while hidden" to optimize transitions between two videos. Endeed when this option is disable, vdj is opimized for slow computer: it decodes only one video when the video crossfader only "shows" one video so, during transitions, videos can skip.
Consequently if you can check this option without any trouble, do it
