I had a little test run with the Mk2. My first impression was that I not really found any real advantage over working with the mouse on the laptop itself.
I'n not a Pro DJ, don't use vinyl/CD, no scratching...
I also found it confusing i.e. when moving the slider from L to R with the PC mouse, that on the console, the slider is still on the Left, things get de-syncronised like this. The same counts for a few other functions. Maybe the idea is with the console attached, to no longer the onscreen function with the mouse? But not all function are there on the console.
So what real functions/trics can a DJ console do that aren't possible with the mouse/keyb on the notebook itself? What are the real advantage of the console instead of using just the laptop with mouse and duo soundcard, considering my basic needs?

Try using the mk2 instead of the mouse (for those functions available). The advantage is that you have more control with the mk2 than just using your mouse. Try moving the crossfader, lower the bass eq on one deck and increase the bass eq on the other deck at once with your mouse...
When using the console and after some practice, you will find all buttons and sliders blindly. So it will be more netertaining for your public looking at you using the console, than you are always sitting behind your screen using the mouse.

With the mouse, you can only change one thing at a time.
With the console, you can change as many as you like (upto the number of fingers you have.)
As you begin to DJ more, you will find that you need to do more things in less time then what is possible with a mouse, or even a touch screen.
Also, anyone who has been DJ'ing since before computers were involved is probably most comfortable having hardware to manipulate, especially because you don't have to look at it, once you are familiar with the layout.
I do know people who do everything with the mouse, but they are limited in what they can accomplish. I have tried, but it is very frustrating and much too limiting for me.
