i was thinking of buying the hercules mk2 and getting the virtual dj software with it. i would only be using it for home use. can i use the console and virtual dj without any other hardware etc? and is it any good?

yes you can, and its great for home use... ;)
you wont find anything that cheap with that quality... all-in-one box
- mixer
- controller for vdj
- dual soundcard
For home use its perfect, for profesional use its even ok...

thanks a lot i am hoping to get it soon. what kind of laptop would be good to run it on as in spec if i was to buy a laptop aswell?

VDJ + the Hercules console will run on ANY new laptop ;)
All NEW laptops have enough power to to that, and all come with USB ports:)
So you can get a cheaper one if its only for audio home mixing..
If you also want to use the laptop for video mixing, or playing games, get a laptop with a dedicated graphic card (non shared memory) with at least 128mb ram...
And djing is addictive... So you will probably collect mp3s like crazy;) hehe.. So as much harddisk space as you can, but external drives comes cheap these days and offer enormous space.. so its easy to expand that ;)
