I'm selling my Technics turntables and getting cd players for TCCD. What do you guys think about the Dns3500's compared to the Technics sl-dz 1200's? And if anyones interested in buying the technics, please let me know.

Don't get the Denons. They feel like cheap toys, which is a shame cause they led the way with the dual cd decks. As for the Technics DZ, I have one and love it...BUT, with Pioneers becoming the standard in most clubs I'd go for them. The DZ has a muh better build quality, but it lacks the sound quality that the Pioneer offers, and the CDJs have more functions too. And believe me, a moving platter doesn't improve the experience.

keep the dancefloor burning : use your technics 1200 and forget CDs

@Man-TK. Believe me, I love my TT's but i'm tired of buying Time Coded Vynils. My last two pairs all got scratched.

Get Pioneer CDJs if you are going CD... with timecode CD's for VDJ
Or wait for the Numark iCDX - HID ... no need for timecode, controls VDJ directly, AND plays CD's too

Might be a stupid question, but for the icdx, does this mean that if i have two of them , I'd have to use two usb inputs plus the usb for my soundcard. or what's the idea behind it. Pioneers are out of the question, they're too expensive for my pocket.

yes, its connected to the PC with USB, so you need what you say.

I would wait for the icdx too. You have the option to play cd's/dvd's through the the mixer direct with out a soundcard and other option to go through a pc/laptop then out through a soundcard to the mixer. Excellent support for vdj and excellent backup especially if your running a 4 channel mixer. 2 inputs from pc and 2 inputs direct from decks.

Yeah it sounds good. When does it come out and has anyone from within the team used it?

Yupp... not me, but the others have... lucky b** hehe

Man-TK, could you explain to me how using CDs rather than vinyls affect the dancefloor? I was unaware that the people on the dancefloor cared about the format, but if it makes a big difference maybe I should revert back to vinyls again.

lol ;) good point ;)
Its not the matter of tools, but style and skills... :)
As someone smart said here at this forum (always forget who... sorry dude if you read this):
"A skilled carpenter is still skilled in his proffession, regardess of having switched from a hammer to a nail gun. Its not the tools that makes him a skilled carpenter"
(not even sure I quote the dude right, but you get the message.. ;)

The Pioneer 800mk2s are much cheaper than the Denons and have all the core features of the 1000's, infact when using timecode, there is no difference between the 800's and 1000's, as only basic functionality is possible, and when your not using timecode you have the best scratch sound any CD player can currently offer.
I suggest Pioneer (800mk2s) for quality and Numark (ICDX) for practicality .

well quality of sound at ICDX depends of VDJ. Quality of sound from cds depends of ICDX. In that case i agree with Bagpuss, 800 is great! but if you are buying cd-player to work with VDJ, it doesn't matter what quality can bring out, right? in that case is ICDX the best choice.
Inviato Tue 05 Sep 06 @ 7:27 pm
Yes, When in timecode mode you only need worry about the build quality and feel, but as a standalone CD player this is obviously is not the case :), personally I wouldn't go out and buy a pair of CD decks PURELY for timecode use, but that's just me.

I just wanna keep that vynil feel, that's why i was looking for a direct drive cd player, is this the case with the pioneer 800's? Do they have a spinning platter?
Inviato Tue 05 Sep 06 @ 8:41 pm
No it's static, but they sound (Scratch) more like Vinyl than the Denons or Technics.
The closest thing to Vinyl I've seen (but not tested) is the Numark CDX, video and specs here:

@Bagpuss. They look good. Man this shit is confusing. I'm gonna go to a store in Philly and play around with all the platters i come across then decide. Thanks guys.

I have just ordered a CDX and then later gonna order a iCDX. Seen vids on the CDX, its so real compared to regular vinyl that it might as well have a tonearm and "working" record on it :D Scratching is amazing on it.
But if you do more club than scratch, 800 is the way forward. If you gonna use more vdj than cd, then icdx is the way.
By the way, the DZ's have not got good reviews as a SCRATCH table, due to an apparent null area where no movement is detected when moving from forward to reverse when scratching. It's apparently only a few millimetres, maybe the guy with then can confirm?
