Does anyone know if the new Macbook Pro with the new Core 2 duo chip recognize an external hard drive formatted in NTFS on Windows XP.

From apples site

If the partition is 32 GB or smaller, you can use either FAT or NTFS. If it's larger than 32 GB, then you can only format it using NTFS. Mac OS X can read and write FAT volumes, but only read NTFS volumes. Refer to the Windows XP documentation if you are not sure which best suits your needs.

Thanks Jchiar,
I think you've answered my question. I want to get a Macbook pro but I was not sure if it would be able to read my current mp3 library. I have over 107,500 mp3's on two external 300gb drives and I would hate to have to rip everything again, but since Mac reads NTFS I should be good. The only thing is that when I add new mp3's to my library I have to do it with the Windows machine. Let me know if this is correct. Thanks alot for the quick responce.

dj john, i would suggest to repartition the drive.

Since you may actually be writing to the disk (update tag info, rename file and the such) you may want to reformat the disks.

You would need to get a third disk , format it for FAT32 and just copy the files to it. Then you can reformat the NTFS disk to FAT32 and copy the files back.

Or you could backup your data and run PARTITION MAGIC http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/features.jsp?pcid=sp&pvid=pm80
