I've noticed that the Numark iCDX has something called a static platter.
Forgive me for my limited vocabulary but, what is a static platter? And whats so good about it?

Hi,
The platter is the part that looks like the receord on a record deck. It's the bit you move to make a scratching effect. Obviously, a record deck has a moving platter (a motor turns the record, that's how you herar it!) but most CDJs have a static platter (they don't have a motor to make it turn).
So when you move the platter you get a strach, then wen you let go the song carries on playing but the platter is stationary. The cd player works out when you've let go of it, and starts the music playing as normal again.

it worked nicely for me on a stanton cd player that iv used in the past cant say for this one
but the reviews i have heard say it is very good indeed

That sounds good then.
You see I was going to make the leap and buy one Pioneer CDJ 800 and one Numark TT500
But now this is out, so I just wanna know if its good for scratching as well.

im personaly facinated by the hardware side of things and have been colecting gear since i was 13 lol now 17
and i use my gear to run a webradio , aslo for mixing on vdj radio :)
which is great fun
my gear consists of :
2 x custom made vinyl decks i was given my my uncle when he retired :)
got mk2 which i use for tcv, Dm2 control surface ,
have 2 ion cd players for tcd
have
5 pcs
which 4 i use as servers for my radio streaming and to allow djs to conect and mix
1 for mixstation 2 which i use for automated mixing when no ones live on air plus with my dm2
which is a very cheap midi controler 39 nine pounds infact its a bit of a toy designed for a cheap mixing program , however with a little midi patch it works nicely
2 laptops , one which i use for personal listening , with my mixstation1 copy lol
and the other laptop i use with my mk2 and the tcv for stratching
have a studio monitor mixer 200w
and have a 500 watt pa amp with 2 speakers
i aslo have recently got a zoom mrs 802 for production which is basicaly a full studio in a box
and hope to buy a keyboard soon lol

Wholy Moly! Thats awesome. Where the hell did you get all the money? I'm 15, and im strugling to come up with the money for my 1st setup, I dont even know weather to get vinyl or CD yet. But i'm considering one of each. Saves alot of internal arguing.

As i have a Dmc background and scratching for years with the 1200's, i still prefer a rotary platter with a real motor, it is the resistance of the motor that helps you when you scratching, i'm still trying to make it with the cdj800's at the club (tccd's).
So Denon 3500, or dj turntables like 1200's is another option.

According to DJ mag the 3500's are good for scratching up to intermediate level but not for advanced, whether this is because it doesn't have a 12" inch platter or some other reason I don't know, as the CDX (12" inch platter) was said (by them) to be great for even advanced scratching.

the 3500 is not only (too) small, it also have "lag"
But MIGHT have been fixed by newest firmware released a week or two ago.. not sure
