This is terrible news. One of the masters of the breakbeat is gone! James Brown provided much of the sound for original Hip-Hop music, he will be missed. I was just talking about him last night with some friends about great bands and I mentioned the JB's. This is a sad way to start the musical new year.

"Sex Machine" and "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" still rock the floor after all these years. Thanks, James.

He did some amazing shows in the UK only recently when he was admitted to the UK Music Hall of Fame. Did some duets with the Sugababes, but really rocked it with his old hits.

that was a shock seeing that yesterday on yahoo....when i was a kid dad used to play some of his faves REALLY loud on his 25 ....watt per channel Harman Kardon tube set......that thing could shout. Anyway his faves consisted of James Brown and Ramsey Lewis and Herb Alpert......I am grateful that I grew up with such great music in the normal fabric of my life....Thank you James. He really wasthe hardest working man in show biz.....when he was recuperating from prostate cancer surgery he still toured ceaselessly. There was a triumvirate of evil dictator music directors......he was one of the three, along with Buddy Rich and Lawrence Welk.......there reps were that they were impossibly demanding....but there legacies will live forever, and there musicians were the creme de la creme.......

I'm playing an old school set on friday... Would it be in very bad taste to play that L.A. Style track? You know the one I mean....
