based on extensive back and forth discussions in the VDJ forums i purchased and just received my NU04. After reading the manual and trying different things i'm stuck. right off the bat the NU04 is not recognized when VDJ is launched. What am i doing wrong? Can someone PLEASE walk me through a detailed step by step of setup and configuration? I have an HP with Win XP. 1GB Ram. 128MB ram video card. 2 CDJ 1000s and VDJ Professional Edition. VDJ works flawlessly. Except for this function. I specifically purchased this mixer for video mixing. If you need my phone # let me know. my direct e-mail is midas90210@austin.rr.com. I sleep with the computer next to me and i stay up late. Please help.

First make sure midi is enabled on the remote control tab of the config page. If it turns green, that means that vdj recognises the NOU4. Also, under the video page, make sure link crossfaders is checked. Hope this helps out.

ok midi is enabled and it is showing green. also the linked crossfaders is checked. how come the ASIO does not show the NU04 unit as recognized? is the midi reading green the sole indicator of the NU04 recognition? as soon as i'm launching VDJ an asio sound error shows. i click ok and proceed but still no success once i get into VDJ and config and change these settings.

I think your confused.
The Nuo 4 not a soundcard therefore it won't show up as a ASIO soundcard choice on VDJ.
It is used mainly for the midi capabilities. The beauty of it is that you can set it up anyway you wan't. I know that DJ_Manixx told you to make sure you crossfaders are linked but I think that is a matter of preference.
This may confuse you but this how I have been using the Nuo 4 for at least a year.
I have the audio coming from my Maya 44 soundcard from player A going to channel 1 and then the sound from player B going to channel 3. I reserve channel 2 for extra midi controls.
I then have made several midi shortcuts in VDJ for the mixer. For example I have it where I can place specific cue markers using the 4 buttons. I also have looping and video transition selections set up with the midi section in the middle of the mixer.
This is where it may confuse you.
You can ONLY use the crossfader for video transitions if the crossfader has one of the channels set up for a midi communication. That is what my channel 2 is for. I can now activate and de-activate on command whether I want the video crossfading to be on the crossfader. This is useful for tricks and just being creative with video DJ-ing. On channel 2's up and down volume fader I also have it set up for video crossfading too. So now I have two options to video transition on the fly.
The possibilities are up to you on how to really set it up.
But keep in mind it ISN'T a soundcard, it is a mixer that has midi functionality.
I made a quick demo using VDJ with this set up to land a nightclub job in Las Vegas. I plan on making more video demos using the TCV's and Nuo 3 combo soon.

You do all the mapping on VDJ.
Once you have an established connection between the computer and your mixer you can go to VDJ and enable it as a MIDI remote control. In there you assign all the shortcuts according to what slider or button you press. It is a very tedious task but once it is done you can save the configuration and change it up later if you need to.
The control lab software is good for configuring how each button or knob will respond when pressed or turned or whatever. It also allows you to put more specific assignments with midi notes and whatever to each button, knob, slider, etc.
One thing to remember... and this is important!!
I found this out through some others here on the forums.
I had a weird issue with the mixer suddenly not responding at all to any of the midi functions at all. It was lost communication between the mixer and the computer randomly.
Well the solution was simple!! Whatever USB port you plug in the mixer when you initially set it up... ALWAYS plug it in the same one when you using it!! ALWAYS!! Sine I have followed that rule... never a problem!!
I love the mixer and would hope other major companies would make similar mixers for us digital DJ's to use!!
My only complaint about the mixer is the sound output isn't as loud as other professional mixers I have used. The club I work at here in Las Vegas I actually run my Ecler into another DJ mixer just to boost the sound... kind of silly.. I know... but I have to or it will not be that loud! ... like I said... my only complaint... ok one more.. I wish there was a dedicated mic channel instead of it sharing with a regular channel for line input (channel 4)
if you need to contact me on e-mail to further help on setting it up properly you can at:
dj_phat_al@yahoo.com
I check it when I can.. but keep in mind we are approaching the weekend so I tend to get really busy until Sunday night or Monday...

dj syko> posted you my number on IM give me a call... I am not sure what sound card you have however. i do not use the control lab software. I am using the midi on my sound card. I do not like software and usb doing the midi. I do not have any issues with my midi, and also I dont need to have other software loaded. I just make all the mappings in VDJ. Like Lo-fat-al indicated, the possibilities are up to you.
I use channels 1 & 4 on Ecler for my TCCD, and than use 2&3 for midi. I use 5 for running ableton into mixer or using sound effect from virtual dj, however most of my audio effects comes from my pioneer efx 1000.
So if your still having issues feel free to give me a call, I know when I first got my NUO4 it seemed a bit confusing but just played around with it. I am still messing around with it to make things better. I can always send you my vdj nuo4.xml file and you can see if it works for you.

Thanks to all in the VDJ forum who came to the rescue. I finally have the Ecler NU04 up and running. Special thanks to Funnybonz who walked me through the whole process over the phone. In the coming days i'll post a tutorial for those who may have to deal with the same issues i had. The instructional dvd that accompanies the Ecler is decent but lacking depth. The instructor moves through the tutorial way too quickly even if you rewind and listen again. It would also be better if Ecler had preset maps for popular mixing software such as VDJ and Serato instead of trying to cross-promote by only having preset mapping for Traktor.

Serato?
Didn't know that Serato was midi compatible...
Glad to hear you got it working!!
I guess all Ecler users have different configurations.
Like I posted earlier I use channel's 1 and 3 for the audio from VDJ...
Only real reason is that the mic channel is shared by an audio channel... major flaw with the mixer in my opinion. The only work around would be a seperate mixer to run mics.
Inviato Mon 30 Apr 07 @ 8:27 am
Yeah, that is a flaw. Glad to hear you got it working OK. Any further problems please pm me again. I've got mine going good with the full midi setup I have my CDJ1000s on the two other channels and route my soundcard onto the two computer inputs on the back.

djkboogie> I am finalizing my mappings today for every one that uses tcv or tccd. You can always tweak it to your likeings. I hear al on the mic, however I just make sure when I use it that the audio is coming from channel 1. You can change the mappings like al indicated for audio on 1 and 3. However everyone has their own taste. I should have the file online here tonight. DJKBOOGIE PM me with your phone number and I can give you a shout tonight

ok here's my tutorial for those with a Ecler NU04. This is based on if you are using VDJ with internal setting or external players using TCCD. Here's my setup. 2 Pioneer CDJ 1000s MK2s-SL1 box from Serato-Ecler NU04-HP Pentium 4 60GB-1GB Ram-128MB Video card.
Internally in Sound Setup you set VDJ to input=None, Output=External Mixer, Sound card=ASIO Driver. Go out from headphone jack on laptop to PFL. Go out from headphone on laptop to CH5 Line in. Now for mapping. Click Remote control tab on VDJ. Ensure that Midi is checked as Enabled and that the light indicator circle is green (not red) showing that the Ecler is being read by VDJ. To double-check this and for more in-depth mapping install the control4lab software included with the Ecler unit. Ensure that on the Ecler unit CHs 2 & 3 are set to midi. Launch the program and navigate to the Device tab->click monitor->on the Ecler unit turn the midi knobs. You'll see info scrolling indicating an interface between the devices. In VDJ click on config. click on add. There are 12 essential mappings (the bass-highs-and mids not included-they are too simple). Map 1-video select trans relative 2-video trans 3-video fx 4-video crossfade 5-video seclect fx (+1) 6-video select fx (-1) 7-loop in on deck 1 8-loop out on deck 1 9-loop length on active deck 10-loop 11-loop in on deck 2 12-loop out on deck 2.
External devices using TCCD. In Sound Setup you set VDJ TO Input=Timecodes, Output=External Mixer, Sound card=whatever your sound card is (in my case the SL1). Here is my setup. Adapt to your unique setup based on your sound card. Audio out from CDJ 1 to Input 1 SL1, Audio out from CDJ to Input 2 SL1. Line 1 SL1 TO H-LINE 1! ON ECLER-Line 2 SL1 TO H-LINE 4! ON ECLER. Click Remote Control Tab of VDJ. Follow same instructions as above with an added step 13. Step 13-In config click add->video->video crossfade (slide crossfader on Ecler unit once again->click ok. Exit config settin gs. you now have full control of the essentials of your Ecler. the rest of the mappings are up to you.
Remember to ALWAYS RUN THE USB LINE FROM THE Ecler NU04 TO THE SAME USB LINE ON YOUR LAPTOP, and the USB from your SL1 to the SAME USB on your laptop to avoid system crashes during a performance.
Thanks to Funnybonz for his help in getting me set up initially with my Ecler.
