Topic: MY ARMS! (turntable arms)

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

hey guys, ive been in a pickle for a while now with my turntables.
no matter what i do, my records always skip when i scratch! (especially the faster, quicker scratches) whats the deal?
i have tried the curved tonearms, and the straight ones, which i have heard have better tracking, but it still skips!

i wonder if it is my scratching itself or the turntables?

at the moment i am trying being extreme, with the straight arms on, and the tonearm wieght as heavy as i can get it. i KNOW that cant be good for my turntables but it is a little better to what it was before... help me! :)

Are your records warped at all? Even a small warp can act like a teeter-tauter when you press on the high side. What kind of needles are you using?

You should think about getting some SL1200's they have an antiskate diel that you can adjust to keep the tonearm in place.

Also get a good set of DJ skratch needles.

One more thing is to check the center hole on your records; if the hole is off center your skratches will more easely skip,

One of the most important things I've found is to make sure the center hole fits tight on the turntable spindle if not it will make the record jerk around and the needle will skip from the movement.
I take thin strips of masking-tape and put it in the hole to fill the gap.

One last tip is to take 2 of those plastic record sleves cut them to be round like a record but just a tiny bit bigger, make a hole in the center a little bigger than the spindle.
Put 2 or 3 under your slipmats,
if they get staticy, wipe them down with Pledge wax, let them dry before using them

I have 2 Stanton 500 AL II cartridges, and numark tt500s.
and i just checked my vinyls just then, and they arent warped or anything.

ok i will give those ideas a go Kreg... thanks. :)

nope no luck.... grrr this is getting frustrating! any other ideas?

is the table your decks on stable? i had these decks and had no problem with skipping. 100% timecode signal? Take a look when you scratch at the behavior of the t/c signal. The 500's I believe do have an anti skate adjustment. What is yours set on? As far as the setup of mats. You should have the rubber mat that comes with them removed. Then wax paper, then a slip mat on top of that. Just throwing you some ideas.

Hey KregCZ good to hear that people are still doing what us oldskoolers were doing in the 70s. Good on you!! ;-)

You might make it worse if you increase the tracking weight too much. I reckon it could be a combination of your needles and a slightly heavy hand.

are these newer needles? They will not track great if they are brand new. There is a break in period that needs to be done 1st.

Look at the stylus when you scratch, does it wiggle slightly or a lot? depending on the setup there is a such thing as too much weight. Watch how it behaves with little weight on it and then with more.

Your arm height for 500's should be on 2. The tonearm weight should be about 3 or 3.5 (make sure you have that adjusted correcly to start) Anti-skate on 0 I have numark decks also, so straight or S just pick one and go with it. I mainly use S but sometimes i throw a straight on, and when i do i have to increase the weight because the straight arm is smaller and less weight then an S.

If anything, setup to reccomended specs and then add more weight

nah the needles are pretty old.
and the needle wiggles heaps... i think its becuase he table i have my turntables on is a bit unstable (after using my outstanding detective skills), so i think that is the main reason? and yeah, i probably have a heavy hand, but im trying to correct that.:P

whats up man,

i used to dj with the hercules rmx but now i wanna get into turntables and so i need some help setting up my equipment.

i just wanted to know how do you set up the turntable weights and the antiskates.

i mostly beat mix hip hop music but would like to start scratching into my mixes, not extensively though,

this is what i use for my equipment:

virtual dj pro 5.2.1
numark ttx tts with s tonearm
numark cc1 cartridges
numark ppd01 for a mixer
hercules rmx for a soundcard
ssl2 tcvs

ANY ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME AND HIGHLY APPRECIATED! THANKS so much!
