Topic: Help with Modifying the Numark DMC-2 Custom Mapper v1.2 - Page: 1

Questa parte dell'argomento è obsoleta e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate

Is it possible to modify the currant mapper for the DMC-2 without creating a whole new one? … I like how 95% of it works, but there are a few things I really would like to change.

Some examples would be to change the pitch adjust - + buttons to fast forward / rewind buttons.

Or change the jog wheel to just the pitch bend / scratch option so I could change them rapidly … and not have to hit the wheel mode button so many times.

I would like to change the Push Effect button to control the effects with a turn … as in when I push the button it turns on the effect … an while pushed if I turn it, it increases / decreases the effect.

These are just some examples of how I would like my controller to operate. If I am unable to modify the mapper without creating a new one (I don’t have skills for that) … is it against the rules to offer money to one of you smart people to create on to my specifications ?

Thanks for any / all help

*edit* I should also note that I am still using v4.3 and do not see myself upgrading any time soon.

*bump*

I feel like a red headed step child ... did I ask a taboo question or something ?

All of the above is possible, but only with changes to the mapper program code and compiling a new plugin.

These features could be added to the next version, e.g: Options to skip unwanted jogwheel modes, ability to change the pitch bend buttons to backward/forward search buttons, etc. Any suggestions for the next version are welcome.

I am busy working on a mapper for the Denon HC4500 at the moment, so I will not have any time to add new features to the DMC-2 mapper for a few weeks. I should be releasing a bug fixed version soon though to fix a bug which causes a crash when AUTOMIX is active (This will be released once I have found the cause of this problem.)

hey jpboggis,

Thanks for the information ... I had no idea it was that involved ... I thought I could just edit the mapper myself somehow.

I will keep using the controller and take notes on what I would love to have.

Should I post my suggestions here or send you a PM ?

Once again thanks.

You can post them here if you like, so other users can read them too and comment. Also a forum posting is more readable than a PM that tends to remove all the new lines, making the text harder to read (PM's are best for short messages.)

Any suggestions will be taken into account for the next version, but I can't guarantee to include them all (Those that will also be beneficial to other users as well will be the most likely to make it into the next version.)

It will be interesting to have the UNLOAD function on the crossfader button for user with external mixer.

Perhaps, video button can control volum effect or volum sampler ?

Ok … ill list all the things I would like to see on the mapper in order of preference…. As I use it and get used to it the importance of many ideas have changed … but these ones I would still like to see changed.

1 -- Change the pitch adjust - + buttons to fast forward / rewind buttons … 4 or 8 beats.

2 -- Change the jog wheel to just the pitch bend / scratch option so I could change them rapidly and not have to hit the wheel mode button so many times…. At the least remove the search/scan feature on the jog wheel .. if you ever hit it by accident while playing music you would understand.

3 – Create a Combo button with Sync & Pitch adjust that slowly moves the BPM on selected track back to normal ( like a left click on the “0” of the pitch fader)

4 -- Change the Push Effect button to control the effects with a turn … as in when I push the button it turns on the effect … an while pushed if I turn it, it increases / decreases the effect.

5 – Remove the Pitch adjust warning that always shows up in the display screen (very annoying)

3 & 5 are already possible in the current mapper:

3 - Hold PITCH ADJUST and press KEY LOCK to turn smooth pitch reset on/off. When on, the pitch will be slowly moved back to 0 (Centre.)

5 - You can turn this off via user parameters (See end of DMC2Mapper.txt for details of how to change these.) The parameter you need to change is 'Pitch Warning'.

NOTE: If you manually beat match, you should turn off 'Auto Pitch Matching' and 'Pitch Reset on Load' in the VDJ options. Both of these will change the software pitch slider position each time you load a song and trigger the 'safe pitch' feature (And the warning message.) Without the safe pitch, moving the slider would result in a sudden 'jump' in pitch to the current slider position, which would be very audible.

I've made a note of your other suggestions. These should be able to be included as options in a future version once work on the Denon HC4500 is complete.

Great news .. Ill turn off the pitch warning tonight.

I'm not sure the Auto Pitch feature is what im looking for ... but it sounds like it is .. I will give it a try tonight as well ... thank you for your time and help.

Ive tried this, and its not what I was looking for. I much prefer the right mouse click option on the pitch slider ... .or having the pitch adjust / sync button on the controller.

Not a huge deal but it would mean having to tuch my mouse less.

Did this an it worked great .. thanks.

Ive tried useing the pitch slider on the controler but found it easier & more accurate to use keyboard shortcuts .. am I the only one experiencing this ?

This is currently possible when the controller is in Mixer mode - Use PITCH ADJUST + Param knob to choose Pitch, then press the parameter knob to reset it to 0. You can also adjust the pitch too using the parameter knob in this mode.

In a future version, it might be possible to add a direct button combination to do this, but few people need this facility - The same can be achieved by simply moving the physical slider to the centre lock position. If safe pitch is engaged, you can force the change by holding WHEELMODE and moving the slider.

That combination is already used for another function in the mapper (Resets the 1st beat for the LCD display beat circles and the Numark BeatKeeper-style walking beat LED's if these are enabled.) I might be able to assign it to another combination in a future version.

The pitch slider in the DMC-2 has 1016 steps (vs 128 or 256 on most other controllers) and allows *very* precise manual adjustments. Make sure you are using 12% or 8% pitch range though in VDJ options for the maximum benefit (34% is too wide range and will result in course adjustments.)

Also, you can make very fine adjustments by either holding down PITCH ADJUST and moving the slider or using PITCH ADJUST and -/+ buttons.

Oh snap !!! .. I had no idea it worked like that :) .. works great .. thanks.

I just got a DMC 2 and trying to figure it out. Does anyone have a updated mapper. Im trying to get songs into the the playlist...right now its going to the deck. Thanxz

you can download jpboggis pluggin (1.3) from the plugins, of course - you'll need to buy a full version of VDJ...

A question ... when I use the jog wheel for pitch bend .. is there a way to increase the sensitivity (speed it up) ?

I didn't use time code last night (lack of space) ... and found when bringing in a new track .. the pitch bend on the DMC-2 was way to slow... I'm used to the pitch bend sensitivity of the CDJ800mk2.

Yes, you can change this via user parameters. You can also change the scratch sensitivity.

Thanks again for your time and patience ... ima try to do that tonight when I get home.

just an FYI .. it worked like a charm.

It was a little intimidating at first ... but once I started modifying the user parameters it was rather easy.

heh .. the more I learn about this controller .. the more I like it.

I have yet another question.

When the jog wheels are in scratch mode .. there is a delay on music playback. (I let go of the jog wheel and it takes .5 seconds for music to start playing)

Is there a way to get rid of the delay ? .. I was looking threw the user parameters but all I could find was the pause/break settings.

This is common to all controllers that do not have touch sensitive jogwheels. A delay must be applied to determine whether the wheels have stopped moving or not. The mapper uses the VDJ scratchwheel action, so the delay is not adjustable. If this is important to you, you would be better off using a controller with touch-sensitive jogwheels, or using timecode vinyl or CDJ's with touch sensitive platters in conjunction with the DMC-2.

At present, the only rackmount controller with touch sensitive jogwheels is the Denon HC4500, but the native support for that doesn't work very well at present.
