This is intended to be a bit of a poll, please post your computer specs and the stability you receive from Virtual DJ Pro (current release), if you don't experience full stability, please be brief with your problem.

This is a poll, not a problem solving thread, please don't hijack or get side tracked.

Laptop 1 (NEW)

Stability (Version 5, Rev 5):

Very stable (even when multi-tasking) , no crashes or hangs, very smooth playback and great sound quality (runs perfectly at maximum quality settings). Used running 2 controllers and an external HD. Very impressive.

Performance rating: 5/5.


Laptop 2 (OLD)

Desktop procc, 2.6ghz Pentium.
512mb of Ram.
40gb HD
Integrated Graphics.
Value when New (03): £800
Hercules Soundcard.

Stability (Version 5, Rev 5):

Very stable and fairly smooth (when not multi-tasking and with reduced Sound quality settings), this was never too much of a problem as the sound was still rich, but the program felt like it wanted more from the system, just a bit.

Runs perfect. I can run several other programs at the same time and not get any soundglitches. Perefect:) Stability =:)

with bcd2000 it is also super stable except not so good for multitasking because because sound distrotion when minmising vdj but this is probably caused by the bcds soundcard. VDJ FTW!!

It's a hit or miss for me, first time doing video mixing, no issue's. VDJ crashed once after that and it's been a challenge trying to figure out what's going on. Now it shut's down with no crash guard. 3/5 I would say.

I never have any issues... however it should be noted that I'm a professional programmer, not DJ. I use this software for the fun of it, not pro work.

Don't have many issues, the ones I have are mainly some hang issues on the second output during Automix while the videos are transitioning and loading the new song. Other than that no DB issues or anything else so I rate it 4/5.

I use both the PC com only for audio n no video as the graphic is not up to the task n for the mac i generally use both audio n video n it werk good;) No serious crash for me for a long time now n i hope it stay this way ;)

Overall runs rock solid considering I beat the crap out of it every night. I don't just use this for VDJ. While VDJ is running... I frequently browse the web, run outlook & excel. I can even DVD decrypt a DVD on the fly AND encode video using TMPGenc all while running VDJ. Hell I am making this post now while running a VDJ video automix. ;)

This laptop is an absolute beast now that I have all the glitches corrected and I would recommend it to anyone (laptop is a little pricey though - close to three grand).

Overall performance.... 5/5.



I would like to add a few more data points. I did have a couple of issues in the past with this laptop. I was getting an occasional bluescreen once a month which ended up to be the PCMCIA cellular card I was using. I changed aircard brands (which changed the drivers) and the bluescreens went away.

I also started getting some bad lockups and some hard disk errors. After replacing the hard disk which didn't solve the problem, I had HP come out and replace my system board because I figured there was an issue with the SATA disk controller. After they replaced the system board... problem solved.


So if you guys are having some issues with your setups... make sure you check out all your hardware and test your components individually.


It probably also helps that I also work fulltime running an IT department for a global advertising firm. So I have extensive technical knowledge and PC troubleshooting skills to keep this laptop in top shape. But it's still a great laptop nonetheless.... best laptop I have ever owned so far.

Works very well with VDJ - some video green lines every so often Have updated Directx and video card drivers But still happens every now and then.
Suspect it might be due to the crappy intel pentuium dual core (gen1)
When I rebuild both systems - both will be quad-core AMD systems

Bought this as a gaming machine years ago and it still runs like lightning

Really stable for hours and hours of pure MP3 mixing, try to do anything fancy like loading a CD or mixing with Winamp feeds it freezes. Try mixing in a CD track that VDJ has never seen before from an MP3, you'll see what I mean.

Normal use: 10/10
Off plan use: 1/10

Off plan use is important when unexpected things get thrown in during a set when theres a floor full of people in front of you. The software needs to be bomb proof no matter what I get up to behind the scenes and I've just not found that t be the case here.

Stability.
Not one crash or hang up with any revision of 5.X The only thing I notice, is on occassion when loading or playing a DRM.WMA file. The waveform is glitchy (jumpy), but the system plays on.

No problems at all with the main rig.

The X-Fi only really works in WDM - the ASIO mode causes VDJ to be very laggy (suspect driver issue). The DAC-3 works but causes VDJ to crash on exit. Since they are only backup devices I'm not bothered.
 
I'm using a loaner laptop at the moment while my laptop is being fixed.

Running 5.0rev5 and its running like a dream. On my hp laptop it doesnt seem to run as the loaner and mine is a dual core centrino.
Being playing with it at gigs for the last 3 weeks and its rock solid for audio use anyways, scratching/effects/analysing... I dont even have most of the tracks analysed. Havent tested it with videos yet. I've got an 8hr gig coming up so that will be a real test.

errors on closing, database issue, and codecs dissapearing.
 
I only use VDJ for VIDEO. 3 residencies a week, plus special events.

Stability

As briefly mentioned above I run VDJ in Windows XP via Bootcamp and OS X 10.5 (Leopard). I do not run VDJ Mac. I have never had a live crash. NEVER. I am currently using Virtual Vinyl 5 rev 5 as I like the way the skin fits on my Laptop. I do all video sets anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours at a time (3+ times a week). The only problems I run into are specific Virtual Folder crashes and Timecode instability.

Laptop - 5
My Mac runs Windows faster and better than any PC Laptop I have ever used. Plus I use OS X for everything else beside VDJ making my Windows partition clean with no processes, viruses, internet...ect.

VDJ - 4/4.5
I'm still having a few issues with the program itself. Organization with the Virtual Folders and some Timecode issues. With a better BPM engine and those issues fixed i would easily rate VDJ a 5.
 
Well since Rev 6 I can only report continued stability.

haven't been playing with V5 so much, but never had a problem with it, too
still need the 2 decks automix sometimes

i've been doing audio with it for a couple years never had a single problem
started video with it, but the video card was too weak
