Hey Guys.. Just Wanted Some Feedback Of What Top 5 Songs You Would Use To Get A Party Started

Inviato Tue 11 Dec 07 @ 4:10 pm
Here is what I can tell you for now(14 years expierience).

In no pacticular order

1. LL Cool J - Doin it
2. Christena Aguilara - Dirty
3. Ice Cube - Put your back into it
4. Jagged edge w Run DMC - Lets get married remix
5. Buckcherry - Crazy bitch

This is just few that I have been using lately.

Do you mean "playing them right from the beginning of a show OR "after you have determined that a booster in the party is required, due to not much dancing early on?

or do you mean right after you set up, or maybe before you set up, or maybe in your mind on your way there?

These are songs that I would play as a party booster through out the night.

Depands on what crowd you are playing too,

It's waste of time playing RnB tracks when you are in a House Club/Bar.

and thats the bottom line my friends. it all depends on the crowd, some songs that rev up in one place doesnt mean its gonna do it in others, you really have to get to know the crowd. what about a wedding? aniversary? company party?

OK, I play 4 nights a week and play mostly top 40 to crowds that are 21 to 30 something. I play some rock sometimes, hip hop, and top 40. These are songs that I would use on occasion at these bars. I can give expamples for other events I am saying for what I currently do the most. Yes it does depend on the crowd, this is the obvious and easiest answer. I just tried to elaborate a little.

My thoughts in a nutshell....nice job Jimmy

My opinion always falls on def ears on this forum anyway.............

Guaranteed to set off a crowd .. Fatman Scoop & Faith Evans - Get Your Hands Up (Rmx)

@ jimspinnin

Posts are never ignored, you just get obnoxious MFs who think that all of a sudden they have the right and background to decide who needs help or not.

where you're playing decides which songs are your party starters.

want to put money on that guarantee?

i've had 2 different dj's that we had hired to take some of the load off my shoulders who thought that would be a good party starter when it was time to play some hip-hop/dance. when the first dj played it - 5 people on dance floor until i told him to get out of it as fast as he could. "they just need to get used to the way i spin." is why he doesnt work here anymore. when the second one played it he had more sense.. saw people leaving floor so he got out of it as quick as he could. he still works here.

where you play dictates what you play. and taking that further - if there was any one single bit of advice i could give any one in this business that would be Learn How To Read Your Crowd if you can do that you can figure them out a hell of a lot faster and with less skull sweat than playing songs hit or miss to get them going.

here i playing for electro people
so here top 5 is

John D - everywhere
Robin - Every heart beat
Global deejays - everybody's free
rhianna - don't stop the music ( remixed on electro / dance )
samin - heater

Mobile DJ in the US here. I am usually asked. What will you play at my event. I always respond. I cannot say that right now. From hearing what type of guests are at the event I can give ideas but it is very difficult to express what I am going to see that night. DJing is an art. I always start out the night by scanning my audience. Counting how many people are out there and what is the age group. Where am I playing. What do I think they will like? You have to feel it and go with it. Not every client is going to want the same thing. I use my years of experience to create an atmosphere that is not only pleasing to my client but also their guests. The majority of times it makes for a great party. And one bit of advice I would like to offer. Get satelite radio. Listen to the different types of music out there. Old and new, different varities. Use it as your education. Write down songs you think might work and try them. It also will get you out of playing the same music over and over. Your clients will appreciate it.

I am really surprised at some of the selections. I could think of some better music IMO.

Top 40ish:
Fatman Scoop - Be Faithful
Lumidee - Never Leave You
Timbaland - The Way I Are
Justin Timberlake - Sexyback
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie

Older Stuff:
Kool And The Gang - Celebration
Michael Jackson - Don't Stop Till You Get Enough
Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
House Of Pain - Jump Around

MJ- BILLY JEAN (NO MATTER WHAT CROWD)
House of Pain- Jump Around (I agree with you Canspoilu)
Bell Biv Devoe- Poison
Enur- Calabria is hitting hard right now
Pitbull- Hit the floor

I ask my clients for a 10-15 song request list, and I ask them to list 4-5 songs or types of songs that they don't want played. I figure if I was playing a party for my own peers, I would know what to play. Logis then tells me that since this party is for the clients peers, the client should have somewhat of an idea. Of course the request list is just a guide. Often looking over this list will get me thinking of dozens of other songs that they will like. Then, take the request list, look at the crowd, put 2 + 2 together, and most times you will get 4.

Thanks for the follow ups.. I understand about reading and getting the feel of the crowd, depending on the type of party..I just wanted a some feedback on what songs you would use to initally get people on the dance floor.

Bottom line there are tons of hot songs in any type of music. People like different things, and that is the spice of life. I would not want to play the same stuff as some other DJ cause then that makes me as bad as him. The reason I have been getting hired, is because alot of DJs in the area dont know what the people want to hear.
