Hey, is there any video jockeys/technicians in the house?
I have an ATI X1900 with dual DVI-I outputs (females) each running to a 20" monitor. (Desktop extended to 2nd monitor). Also on the video card is an S-video which I haven't tried to use until 2day. I ran the S-video to a new projector I bought and the quality wasn't all that great. The projector wouldn't even get a signal from the S-video output until I disconnected my 2nd DVI connected monitor. Strange. I tried to make the ATI catalyst software detect the projector, but it wouldn't...as long as the 2nd monitor was connected. And I forced it to look for a TV output.. stil nothing as long as my 2nd LCD monitor was plugged into the 2nd DVI port.
As mentioned, the video feed from the S-video cable didn't seem all that great. So I plugged the projector into the 2nd DVI port on the back of my video card and it was a big improvement. Very clear. So I had my #1 monitor and the projector as my "extended" desktop for testing purposes.
Anywayz... I need some advice. I would like my second DJ LCD monitor back working again AND I would like to have a projector and 3 or 4 LCD tv's hooked up as well. The projector and TV's will be a bit of a distance from the computer/dj table (50-100 feet or so).
I'd like to play videos over the projector/tvs from VDJ as well as maybe from an external dvd source. (Computer animation DVD's).
My projector has the usual inputs (DVI, VGA, composite (yellow RCA), S-video - but not component - r,b,g). I haven't purchased the LCD tv's, but i'm sure their the same inputs.
What would be the way you'd hook this system up? I'm assuming it would all have to come off my 2nd extended desktop DVI output since this is the one that displays fullscreen video from VDJ.
If you could go over cableing options, splitting options, that would be awesome.
It sounds easy enough... to go from a computer source to a 2nd monitor and projector and 3/4 tvs, but to be honest, i'm a little overwhelmed with the video equipment websites i've come across...and the prices for splitters, extenders, hubs, ports. Serenity Now! lol
Any help would be appreciated.. I'm sure others will be more then grateful as welll as more and more are hooking up video systems.
Thanks

As you have found out, you have to use one or the other. Your second out is either DVI, VGA, or S- video. You don't get three outputs. One DVI goes to your monitor. Now, you have to decide how you want to connect your output to your guest. You can only pick one. So if you have a projector that has a DVI input, use the DVI, as this will give you the best quality. If your projector or TV only has S-video, use that, and it will be fine. You can not have a monitor on the DVI, and the S-video, at the same time.
If you want to use multiple outputs, as in projectors, and LCD, or plasmas, you have some choices. If they have ins and outs, you can daisy chain them. Come out of the computer, into your first output. Then come out of there, and into your second, and so on. You should be able to get three or four outputs chained together with good quality. The next option ( I use this) is a powered splitter. Come out of the computer, into the splitter, out of the splitter, into your four outputs. One of these can be your second 20 inch monitor, that you use. I have a 1 in four out, put they have different configurations. If you want to run more then one source, as in your computer and a DVD player, get a 2 input switcher and a splitter. Your computer and DVD player go to the switcher, and then to the splitter. You can also get a with more inputs and more outputs
As for cable runs, I believe you can go 100' with VGA, and DVI(mo money), I would not try to go over 25, 30 feet with S-video, but do some research, you may be able to go further.

You can also buy a cheap adapter which will switch DVI to VGA connector which is essentially a component type connection. Im pretty sure you can go from DVI directly to component (RGB) without a scan converter, but I havent seen that in the store. In theory it's possible. Im using a DVI-VGA adapter already and its very usefull for the fact that I have 20' vga cables and only a 1.5m DVI cable...
There is signal degredation in VGA cables above 30', so I dont really believe it goes to 100' and still look good.

I was reading & i have a question :). My lappy has svideo & vga outputs, I have a vga splitter (1in 4 out). My monitor has dvi & Vga, my tv's for guest are s video . I believe i essential need a splitter that has 1 in vga to 4 outs (vga & svideo) or is there another way to split a vga output into different types of monitor tv inputs???

Since your TVs are svideo, I would use the svideo out of the computer, to a svideo split, to the TVs.

@ JUSTNYCE2 I have the same problem at the club I most regularly work at - I have 2 VGA monitors in the booth, but also have to feed to club's distribution box via s-video.
The solution I use is this box:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grand-Hand-View-universal-converter/dp/B000ELL2RK/ref=pd_sbs_ce_img_1
This takes a VGA input, and outputs BOTH VGA AND S-video/scart/composite video, so I use the VGA output from my laptop to the VGA in of this box, then I use a 2 way splitter from the VGA output of this box to feed both the the monitors in the booth, and a s-video lead to feed the club's distribution box. All works together very well.
