Would be really nice if they were to allow VGA and S Video though.

Certainly would. Would have made my life easier.

I take it u spent hours tryin to get it to work like I did LOL:)

Actually I spent about a hour and a half on it.

THEN

I read the board manual.

THEN

I spent an hour and half going to the parts store buying a converter - finding it didn't work.
Going back to the parts store and buying a monitor.

Then hooking everything up and started playing.

Amazing what happens when you read the manual!!!

But back to what davefromlondon was orgionally asking about I think it would be Much Better for VDJ to have Semi-standard parts list.

stuff like motherboard (not nessarily the one we use)
Processor
Vid card (ati or Nivida)
Ram - Amount and Speed.

I think it is time for some uniformality.

That's a big failing about PC's that Mac does do head and shoulders above.

Uniform configuations.

Every macbook/imac/mac pro is tested for hardware performance and they all act pretty much the same. When you have that kind of uniformality it should make your life easier.

My interest in this mobo was that Marcel said he 'swore by, not at his PC'.......my theory is that having NO extra video card and NO extra audio card - ie all done on the mobo may be a factor in this success - the fact that no teamers have responded tells me i'm right (lol)

The problem Marcel is that the PC market is constantly moving. Motherboard models don't stay around for long before the next greatest thing hits the market. Everything is moving towards smaller and faster. PCI-E 2.0 is here, so now you will see a slew of motherboards coming in the next few months centered around that. Pretty much as soon as a standard is written, some part of it will be outdated if you rely on specific models and manufacturers of equipment. (And there are just too many little pieces to worry about (memory, hard drives, video cards, etc...) The best advice I can give everyone here if you are buying a PC or building a PC is this:

* Try to buy a model of PC that someone here is using with success. If you can't find it, get a similar model with better specs. If you can't afford it, stick to CDs and vinyl until you can.

* If building a PC, don't use cheap mobos and memory. I know some people have had success with them, but if you want a performance rig you need to use performance parts. Would a NASCAR racer buy his parts from the Target automotive section? I think not.

* Install Windows fresh and don't install anything more than what you need to your job with on the computer, period.

* Do your homework. Don't go out and buy that new soundcard, mobo, video card, etc... without checking in with the people on the forum to see if they have had an experience with it. And make sure you can return it if it doesn't work for you.

I've been in the Information Systems business since 1990 and programming computers since 1985 and programs along with computers have gotten a lot more complex since my little Commodore VIC-20. Things should be as easy as plugging in a program and getting it to work, but depending on the complexity of the program, it might not be that simple.

As far as the Apple comparison goes. Apple is the only company that make Macs, so you will never have the problems that we currently have with PCs. On the other hand, how easily can you upgrade your Mac. I'm stuck with what is in my Mac Mini. On the other hand with my PC, I can just drop in a faster processor and get a boost. However there is a price to pay for that flexibility.

I understand and Am already researching the Next GEN Mobo for when My System goes out of date.

But From My experience with this board I will probably purchase the NExt Gen of this model - unless they change it drastically.

well my system doesnt work flawlessly but it sure works well enough for me but it was also built new back in 03-04 so by pc standerds it old but its still plenty fast for me as long as i dont try to do to much at once, but i also dont do videos either so there ya have it.

but i do think that so unifority would be exlent idea but insted of just one mobe i would go with 6 differant, but 6 is better than the hunderds that are out there
