Hey guys.
Quick question:
I'm not interested in ripping VOBs to my hard drive at the moment, so I was wondering whether its possible to play certain tracks (chapters) on a DVD in VDJ?
I'm using multi-VOB discs, each file being around 1 GB, but as you can imagine, loading up a VOB in VDJ naturally includes a couple of tracks within that 1GB (often cutting at a random time towards the track at the end of the VOB).
Now I know in Media Player you can select each individual track, but browsing to the DVD in the VDJ browser shows no files whatsoever in the VIDEO_TS folder, yet alone tracks.
I know everyone here would suggest ripping each track to MPEG and then playing it, but I would still like to know if its possible to play chapters directly from disk.
Any help greatly appreciated!

I just tried it now and it worked for about 30 sec until I loaded another video from the same dvd and tried to mix them, but it worked could see both of them playing, you would need a monster computer to do that with tons of fast memory and a super dvd rom drive
the computer that I used for this is an intel pentium IV at 2.6 ghz with a gid of ram and a 5400 rpm hdd running xp pro, so is not the greatest, but an hp hdx with intel dual core @3ghz and 4gig ram it might do the job
you have to consider that usualy the vob files on a dvd are not a file per song but most of the time the vob files on the dvds are containing few song or tracks

i dont think the computer speed makes a difference, its the seek-speed of the dvd drive itself. proably much better to have two drives and not try to play two files on the same disk at once. optical drives cannot seek the same way as harddrives, so you send it into a path which is likely to crash and burn, scuze the pun

my understanding was that vdj reads the file and is loading it in to the ram or as much of it that is speccified in the settings (5, 10,30 min, always) and after it fills up the ram is going to use the page file on the hdd, but I could be wrong.

Yes thats right djlex, which explains why you can load up a track from a CD and then eject the CD from the drive once its done analyzing.
Its just a pity VDJ cant read tracks out of DVD vobs :(
