as a subscriber to xmix, ultimix, selectmix, etc., i get about ten club cds per month and i was curious as to the amount of memory it would take to keep my "tagged" music database in virtualdj pro.. with about 300 cds to load (assign file names like artist, title, genre, year and such) would i risk bogging down my laptop or the software's efficiency? if so, i dont wana waste my time and tag 4500 songs if its only gona cause problems in the long run. but if the amount of memory needed to the suport the database isnt that substantial, i should be good to go - - but i dont know...help!!

WOW! :::sighs::: On a brighter side..... i hope this helps....
If you are using a computer that has sufficient memory 2+GB/Ram, more than 20GB available HD space, and a multi-threading processor with Windows Vista running no more than basic services....I can't imagine you having any trouble. My experience tells me that the VDJ database stores all of the data that is in question onto a file (one per drive that has been introduced to the search database)...and seeked only as needed. Virtual DJ doesn't load 10,000 songs into memory because that is how many you have, it uses a database that points to those files, the database file tells vdj, where the files are, how to load them, what their bpm, cue, levels, and such is....etc.
'Nuff said, your PC should have no problems AT ALL, with the VDJ database, so long as it meets the specs required to run VDJ. But if you have that many files, it's the analyzing....that may take a LOOOONG time! But that is perfectly normal.

Dude - it takes me 3.5 - 4 hours to analyze 8,000 song plus another 500 vids. The rest is up to you how to organize and label. I've trying to reorganize my files for 2 months but can't get enough time to just bang the stuff out. So I do a little at a time for now.

wow !!
are we talking about 'recursing' or analysing all the BPMs??
to recurse all 5 of my harddrives with over 150,000 files takes about 30 mins.
though i notice to recurse a drive from which you are playing something from would take significantly longer. (not a flaw in VDJ, but the drive has to keep looking in 2 places on the disk)

If it takes you 3.5 to 4 hours to analyze 8,000 songs, you must be using a computer that Intel is unaware of.... or not using extended or club mixes of music. That is quite fast.
