I want to build a gigbox. Any suggestions how I should go about it? I have no computer smarts so I would have to have someone do it for me.

If you have no knowledge of pcs I would recommend buying a nice notebook pc for as much as your budget can allow and upgrade the ram to 2Gb (although I run 1 Gb happily with timecode and video on a 1.8 Ghz with a dmx light controller running in the background).

i second musicalcheer's point. its a bit of a tricky game building a pc. consider that there are so many brands and so many models and henceforth unlimited combinations. unless you have the experience in the technologies and how they work, you may very easily get a 'bad combination' where small glitches which are minor, but impact your performance will make the money spent less worthwhile.
buying into a reputable manufacturer is not just about cost, it's also about the need that they will throroughly test the combination of components. having said that, i recommend you DONT buy HP, Acer, Lenovo (was IBM) laptops. Go more towards Alienware if you can afford it, Toshiba is very good, and I have heard that Asus laptops are also quite decent. Dell is apparently good, but ive never been impressed myself. (And no, Alienware is not DEll, they were bought by dell, but they still manufacture their own products in their own factories, so that is hardly the same).
the same generally goes for pc desktops as well. and remember the adage; 'a cheap buy is an expensive buy'...
