Well, I am using a standard mini-tabletop DVD player as my auxillary analog inputs, which are consumer level - not pro level.

Have you tried to use a ground loop isolator? I had the same problem and that was a simple cheap fix for me.

Just wanted to update everyone...
The cause of this problem in fact is the driver. Ever since I installed the 2008 drivers, there is no distortion.

Upon closer inspection, there is an occasionally scratchy sound that sounds like dirty slider which happens during certain sounds on the analog input. I'm positive the Herc is introducing this, as I've eliminated everything else. And it always happens in the exact same places on a given DVD input, regardless of the Herc channel. When I bypass the Herc, all sounds fine.
So I guess the new Herc driver is better than before, but still not good enough to use the analog input.

Did you tried using powered USB hub?

No - just the normal USB with no transformer. But originally, the transformer did not make any difference. \
This appears to be another bad driver... does anybody else using the new 2008 drivers experience this occasionally scratchy sound every 5 0r 10 seconds?

Maybe obvious this.... but have you checked the line input switch at the back (one for each line in) if set to phono it thinks the sound input is lower as if its come from a stylus. worth a look....lol
Also 9v is correct, and with the power supply connected you can use the mic input as well !
