Hi, i'm awaiting arrival of my hercules rmx. I have just purchased a pair of Alesis M1 520 active speakes. On the back of each speaker there is a 1/4 jack line in and a xlr female line in.
My question is, do i need 2 1/4 jack to male xlr cables - 1 cable running from line 1 on the controller to the left speaker and another cable running from line 2 to the right speaker?
On the back of the controller it gives you the option to use 1/4 jack or rca. If i was to use rca, how would i connect this to the speakers? I'm kinda new to this so please bear with me

Hello Garry,
You can use either:
- 2 cables with 1/4 inch jack mono male plug on 1 side, XLR on the other side, as on this link http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_sssnake_mxp1015_audiokabel.htm,

- or 2 cables with 1/4 inch jack mono male plug on 1 side, 1/4 inch jack mono male plug on the other side, as on this link
http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_sssnake_sk3613_kabel.htm

You have no reason to use RCA to 1/4 inch jack cables as the RCA output level is -10dBv while your speakers are designed for +4dBu input level, the output level of the Rmx 1/4 inch jack plugs.

Thank you. The guy in the shop (where i purchased the speakers) suggested the rca to 1/4 jack cable. I think i'll get the 1/4 mono jack to xlr.
Thanks again

Sorry one other question. Do the cables from the controller to the active speakers have to be mono?

Hello,
If the jack 1/4 inch to XLR plugs cables have a stereo jack 1/4 inch plug, it will work as with a 1/4 inch mono jack pug, so it doesn't matter.
A jack 1/4 stereo plug to XLR is a balanced cable, while a jack 1/4 mono plug to XLR is an unbalanced cable: when you plug a balanced cable on an unbalanced output as the Rmx jack outputs 1-2, it works in unbalanced mode, and that is all it does, so it causes no problem.
