Hi,
I was wondering what is the best way to create a rackmount PC?
What I mean is, should I buy a PC already built for a rackmount, or is it possible to buy the rackmount case, and build the PC myself?
Warm Regards,
Pat

Google "rack mount server cases", you can find them in any stage of assembly, from just the case to a full blown system ready to go.
I have a nice 4U case that I used for awhile but I'm not using a racked rig at this time. it is now a media system in my home theatre.
A 4U case is good because you have plenty of room for expansion. But a 2U or 3U case can work, just not much room for additional cards, ie video, usb, firewire. I guess would depend on how much rack space you have availabe.
This idea is a little ghetto, but I have racked a regular tower pc by securing it to a 19" rack shelf. If you have a tower you might not mind experimenting with you could buy a shelf a lot cheaper than you can buy a server case. It would basically be a 4U case at that point.
