I used to do mobile and club events (anything between 50 to 800 people per gig), but stopped about 15 years ago. I'm starting up as mobile again soon - first 2 gigs are in October. Where can I puchase music videos, since I currently have about 7000 tracks which I've ripped from my music DVDs, but most of the time here in South Africa the "new" music DVDs are released long after the tracks were hits. Preferably an online source. I will be playing videos most of the time.

I am new to the whole DJ thing. So far I have done 1 birthday party which led to playing at a bar, The bar gig went so well that I am playing there once a month. The only problem with the bar is that its small ( Only holds about 70 People ) So I don't get paid much mostly play for free food and a few drinks. But I figure that I love to do it and it gets me practice in a live crowd which is great. I have played there 4 times and people love it so I might start to ask for a few bucks soon. I played the bar this past Saturday and a couple asked me to DJ their wedding. I have never done a wedding before but would like to get some experience. They asked me a price and I told them I didn't know cause I have never done a wedding before. They loved my setup and music so much that they said I would be perfect. She gave me her number and said to call her. So my questions are what would I charge them. They want me to play from 6pm to 1am and they want me to bring my smoke machine and lights. and my second question for all of the Mobile wedding DJ's is where do you get all your music from. I have over 1000 songs that I have purchased off of iTunes and have transferred from CD's I own to my VDJ library. And I have a premium membership on VDJ. Does anyone have another good way to get music for weddings and other mobile gigs.
Thanks
Thanks
depends on what type of music your looking for? I'm mostly hip hop and island reggae so I get my music from franchisrecordpool.com

I'm a mobile DJ. I use VDJ Pro for lots of events. I love the way the database and comment editing work. I do like the color waveform of Serato, and hope that VDJ 8 will incorporate that.
Mondays - I do trivia at a local country club and VDJ provides the background music and playlist, as well as plays song clips if I'm doing "music" or "movie" trivia.
Tuesdays - I do BINGO at a local restaurant. I take requests and VDJ plays all the background music and playlists.
Fridays - I do karaoke, and VDJ plays the music before and after karaoke. I use Karma for the actual KJ work because of the AWESOME search and rotation system. Karma also plays the songs between singers, but if VDJ's rotation system and song search was better, I'd use it so I could "DJ" while waiting for the next singer to get up. :)
Saturdays - I mostly do weddings on Saturdays, although I have a 20th high school reunion this Saturday. VDJ provides all the music. I set up custom playlists for each couple, as well as generic playlists for pre-ceremony music, cocktail hour, etc. Depending on the crowd, I may do some mixing, running VDJ Pro with my MixTrack.
I have played a few small clubs, but frankly, I'm not a great turntablist yet. In my area, the clubs really want people who can mix and scratch well. I do work on getting better at it, and now practice with Serato on 1200's and a TTM-57.
However, for now, I'm 95% mobile DJ rather than club DJ.
