Hello everyone, I have a question. I am just learning how to use music videos. Can I transition from one deck to the other using an external mixer? I have a couple of videos that I just tried and I cannot transition with my Numark DXM-09. Is it possible to transition using this mixer.

Thanks

You need a midi compatible mixer or controller, to control VDJ features.
Your current mixer is just an audio mixer, that can of course cut/crossfade audio signal out of a pc, but it cant control VDJ features.

So to control the video crossfader ( guessing you dont want to use your mouse or keyboard), you need a controller with MIDI.

This ranges from simpler X-Session Pro (m-audio), to Numark Total Control, Hercules RMX, to more advanced Vestax VCI.

Or a full blood hardware mixer (like you have), but with midi features, such as Ecler Nuo4, Ecler Evo4, Ecler Evo5, Pioneer DJM 700, Pioneer DJM 800, Korg Zero4 and lots more

Hope that helps ;)

Thanks dj-in-norway for the quick response. I guess I'm smelling an upgrade :) !

np ;) the Ecler Nuo4 should be pretty cheap by now, as they have released two new models (evo), so might get a bargain ... great mixer

btw, I see you got hercules Mk2, you can alway use that for VIDEO crossfade, and your numark audio mixer, for AUDIO crossfade.

If you want ONE crossfader to control both at same time, you need upgrade;) (or use the mk2 for both, but its not quite an external mixer though.. )

Yeah, I was playing with my MK2 last night but it's not the same as my external mixer. I have heard Ecler mixers are very nice. I will look into one of them. Is Pioneer mixers midi compatible? Just asking.

I will do some homework on the mixers and let you guys know which I will invest in. Hey Norway, if I do get an Elcer mixer or midi compatible mixer, what do I do with my MK2?

Pioneer DJM 700 and DJM 800 are midi compatible ;)

and what to do with the MK2 ? kick it flat, and make a freesbee ..hehe

Or you can always map it up (by using the custom mapper) as an extra controller, next to you mixer... But might be overkill.. :)
And it can always be good to have as spare, for that light gig where you dont wanna bring your real mixer... say a friends beach party or what else :)

Haha, that's good!!! I was thinking of making a device where I can have my MK2 and Numark side by side and having an aparatus that can move the crossfaders move simultaneously.

I need to save up some $'s for a good mixer. I really would like the Pioneer djm-800, but cash is tight right now. Also, can you tell me a good website that I can download music videos? Thanks.

Smashvidz.com has been my life saver for mixable hip-hop/booty shakin tunes as well as mashups! I wish they'd do more dance.

Thanks JayMSY for the info. I'll check the site out later.
