So I've just been browsing the iphone / itouch new app store in itunes, and they have a new app called remote, instead of typing what it does i'll post a snippet of the description.

So basically DEV Team, this would be so badass if u could write an app that could control virtual dj's librabry via wifi. Just a thought, maybe something to look into for VDJ!!!

Hang on...

I don't think this is a good example of an application considering the high cost to actually get access to the iPhone SDK. You can get FREE plugins for winamp which will let you stream music and control your library via http which would work well on the iPhone's browser, but also any other mobile phone - I've even used this on my PSP before. There are probably java applications which do the same thing for other brands too, why concentrate on such a tiny marketshare? Hopefully Apple don't have any problems with Sun bringing java to the iPhone.

The IPhone / Touch SDK is free for developers! And if u saw this in action u would be very pleased, im sure that the dev team could make something pretty amazing with this SDK!!! Like I said just an idea, not anything that is needed!

It's free to develop for an iPhone emulator, but you cannot redistribute your code or test that it actually works on an iPhone without paying a fee.

A better approach in my opinion would be to do it by a web based approach; everything is moving to the web now anyway. This will only work if the iPhone / iPod touch is able to stream mp3 music to its browser (via flash or a javascript controlled embedded quicktime object), I don't think Apple have been nice enough to allow such simple functionality even though it has a youtube player! This way, there's the possibility that the application will work on other mobile devices, it will work without you having to be in your house (as long as edge or wi-fi is available) and it doesn't limit someone to using iTunes.

@andrew

I Think what i was getting at is that, with the new software I can be sitting across the bar next to the bar manager, and search and change or cue up a song from my ipod touch without going back to the computer. This is now capable with your library in Itunes, it does not strream the audio to the ipod, it acts as a remote to control ur itunes remotely, so now i cue'd up a new song to play while im doing something else. Yes there might not be a direct reason for this, but let me give one that happens to me all the time.

Im sittin in the dj booth, dj'in with VDJ on my 7 hour shift in the strip club. Few hours pass, I have to go to the restroom, ya know, number 2. Well i only get 3 minutes between girls to switch them and so on. If I had my wireless mic, and my ipod i could be physically sitting on the "toilet" and changing the girls.

Like I said, Its just concept, and I think it would be neat. Its nothing that we need, but definetly something to play with!

Ah right, sorry I totally misunderstood. It's funny you should mention this actually, check out this mock-up I made two years ago.

No Problem Andrew!

I like your concept by the way! Well Cheers to the programmers that want to dip their feet into this, if they think it is feesable!

I had a home-made bluetooth remote control for VDJ on my Sony Ericsson K750i. ;-)

...and I experimented with one on a TyTN II ages ago as well. Only really of any use for an emergency (can't get back from the toilet quick enough lol) or for Automix users though. I used it as a manual talkover with the radio mic when going walkies...
