well I'm glad I'm not the only newbie to this harmonic mixing thing....can anyone explain a little more about the key determination system that is included in VDJ 5.1? I have purchased third party software "mixed in key" to scan my files for keys before VDJ offered this feature. The key that MIK software posts follows the "Camelot" system, and I have my MIK set to add the key/bpm info to the comment in the tag, so that it is viewable in VDJ. Now with 5.1 and the included key scanning, KEY results is all over the place......the keys do not seem to match from these two programs ...Is the VDJ key supposed to be following the "camelot" protocol also? Why are the keys not matching?

The keys do not match the Mixed in Key product because it detection algorithm is different.
No pun intended here - but, the key behind harmonic mixing is that you have consistency in the detection. If you were to compare MixedInKey with MixShare's Rapid Evolution (which does key detection) you would find differences as well.
Here is a good link to the MixingOnBeat.com thread that does a comparison of MixedInKey, Rapid Evolution and Mixmeister products -

If you go to the last page of that thread, you will see a very revealing post (the last one) -- and in a nutshell what d.jayme is saying is that as long as you use 1 software for all your key detection then it's effectiveness and accuracy is relative to that software that detected it. So, if you stick with VirtualDJ's detection then you should be fine.
