I NEED HELP.....
O.k. this is where I am at now.
V3.4 has all the bpm's, cue points, and comments back. (System restore)
I have 5.0.7 with no info.
V5.2 is NOT on my system.
Hercules RMX is on my system.
Where I need to be.
V3.4 needs to work and retain all bpm's, cue points, and comments
V5.2 needs to be loaded on my laptop over 5.0.7 and needs all the info from V3.4 (with 3.4 still working and info intact)
Hercules needs to be loaded and operational and working RIGHT with V5.2 with all info intact while 3.4 STILL WORKS with all info intact.
Can this happen?
Can someone walk me through it like i'm a 5th grader? maybe even a 4th grader.
Thank you so much to whoever can help me get this done.
I have 3.4 and 5.0.7 in two different folders.
My music is on an external HD. 3.4 has all info (cue points, bpm's, comments) on the laptop in the c/ drive in the VDJ folder
I have a backup of the database on a thumbdrive in case of a oops.
Made a restore point in case of a oops.
Just loaded Herc RMX and 3.4 still has all info.
I just have to load 5.0.2 and KEEP 3.4 info intact. Thats where i'm having the biggest issue right now.
I want V3.4 with all the info and V5.2. with all the info from 3.4 (cue points, bpm's comments) I don't need any other copies of VDJ. Just those two and for both of them to work properly with ALL INFO in both.
Any ideas?

What is probably going on City, is the 3.4 database is not compatible with the 5.2 database(new sound engine since 5.0). The only way out of this could be to re-analyze all of your tracks. I did over 10K worth of tracks over night..... You now have four threads asking this question, please stop generating new threads about this..thanks....
Inviato Wed 13 Aug 08 @ 7:13 pm
Don't worry TearEmUp. No more threads on this topic. I'm just trying to get it to work.
I understand the databases may not be compatible but installing 5.2 in a different directory than 3.4 should not wipe out the 3.4 database. I have tried to reinstall the database (saved on thumb drive) back into 3.4 after loading 5.2 and it won't work.
I just don't understand why this is not working.
I know i'm not VERY computer savvy but i'm no idiot either. I have tried to be as descriptive as I can. It just makes no sense to me that v3.4 and v5.2 in different directories will not leave the 3.4 database intact and why I cant even Re-load the v3.4 database into 3.4 NOT 5.2.
I will start fresh with scanning all music in 5.2 if I HAVE to but I still need v3.4 to retain the info AND also have 5.2 loaded on my system at the same time.
But I promise, No new threads on this subject.
On a good note, after all this is worked out, anyone else that may have the same issue or a similar issue will have a detailed explaination on how to fix this.
Thanks for your attention.

how about two laptops one w/3.4 and one w/ 5.07 that should work
Inviato Fri 15 Aug 08 @ 6:36 am
I have returned the Herc RMX.
I may just wait for a better controller to come out.
All this time and still no "real" answer...Damn... two laptops is not a "real" answer. Don't know why some folks write stupid stuff like that.
Anyway, thanks for the help that was provided.

I am still tryin to figure out why u need 3.4 and 5.2 on a system, if 5.2 works than whats the need for 3.4??
Inviato Tue 26 Aug 08 @ 3:25 pm
The reason I need both 3.4 and 5.2 is that when I dj straight off my laptop, 3.4 is way more responsive and accurate than my v5 is. Also, it has never let me down so I will always keep it, even if I only use it as a backup.
I need the flexability of being able to rip it up with my Pioneer 800's (v5.2) or to tear it up straight off my laptop (v3.4).

I'm still trying to load 5.2.1 along with 3.4...
AND NOW I GOT A PROTECTION ERROR....
Incredible.
This is what I did.
I have installed 5.2 in different directory (install path) and for some reason, it still wipes out the info in 3.4. I have even created a new profile on windows and installed 5.2 under a different signer. When I go to the 1st profile, 3.4 has lost all info.
I have tried to re-install the database back into 3.4 after the 5.2 install but it will not work.
I just don't understand why this is.
I have had 3.4 and 5.2 at the same time but I can't seem to keep the 3.4 info intact.
I'm not real worried about the 5.2 database. If I need to rebuild it I will. I would have all the info from 3.4 (If I can keep the 3.4 info intact)
Any ideas?

Ok, so need to run regedit and go to the following location --
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VirtualDJ -> in here you will find a registry entry called -> Home folder
It should be spelled just like I typed it -> Home folder
So change that value to the path where version 3 is installed. So it is most likely ->
C:\Program Files\VirtualDJ
Once changed now close regedit and try your version 3 again.

Message: cstoll,
I appreciate your help so much. Thank you.
I need to make sure I do this right so I will explain where I am right now BEFORE I do anything.
Currently I have v3.4 working properly with all info as it should be.
I also currently have v5.0.7 working properly with all info as it should be.
I need to get 5.2.1 loaded while keeping all 3.4 info intact.
Am I able to load 5.2.1 over 5.0.7 (upgrade from 5.0.7 to 5.2.1) and retain the 5.0.7 database?
Am I able to keep the database in 3.4 intact when I upgrade?
I don't quite understand the fix yet. Thats why I am trying to be crystal clear on where I am, what i'm trying to do, and what I currently have loaded on my computer.
Again, Thank you for your patience and your help.

Message: Yes, you should be able to load the update in and select the same install location as 5.0.7.
You may still have to go back and change that registry entry again after the install in order for 3.4 to work correctly again.
The reason for the change in the registry entry is that it is the pointer to the location where the database files are stored. In all the latest versions we update all the pointers to point to the new location. However, you can change it (which you did) so that 3.4 when it looks for it's Home folder pointer, it points back to the program file location and not the new my documents location.

Message: Let me explain what I did.
I changed the regedit as described above. (by the way, I have 2 home folders)
C:\PROGRA~1\VIRTUA~1
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\VirtualDJ
I changed both of them. The 1st I added a 1 to the end and the other I added 3.4 to the end.
I went back to 3.4 and all worked as it should.
I then loaded 5.2.1
I opened 3.4 and no info remained. All cue points and bpm's gone like it was never scanned.
I did not change the values back in regedit.
I did a system restore to get everything back.
I changer the values again in regedit
I downloaded 5.2.1 again and when I tried to open it I got a protection error. all info in 3.4 was gone again.
I did another system restore to get back to normal and thats where I am at now.
