Im looking to upgrade to an HC4500, is this unit also a sound card or do i need to get a USB mixer in order to hook it up to my laptop for use with VDJ?

Hi,

This unit has it's own ASIO sound card with 2 independant outputs for each deck.

Works well for the most part.

Sometimes though the controller will need to be "powered down and repowered" [basically to reboot it] just in case it looses it sound output, etc...

And a warning once this unit is rackmounted the power button becomes hidden, etc...

So make sure you hook it up so you can easily turn the power off on the unit if you need to do that "reboot" process, etc...

Thank you

Weird!, I have never need to reboot anything, it has worked flawless for me since I bought it.

One thing is for sure, if I have to buy a new rackmount controller, it will be the another HC-4500.

I also never had the rebooting-problem! The HC 4500 is an fantastic controller and it works absolutly flawless with VDJ. So i would say, it's the best 19'' Controller on the market.

I second that....Plus the controller has lots of user customable options when teamed up JPBoggis' mapper. Also, it's a very strong/well-constructed piece of equipment..

I'm very happy with this controller....and now with DJFormat's skin, it looks even better !!!

Don't forget that you can also control the BU4500 CD/MP3 unit as well.

I own an American Audio mixer. The sound quality is not that good. With all due respect, why spend big dollars on a high end controller and then cheap out on the mixer?

Good question. Some one had mentioned to me that it was a good quality mixer for the price, i guess he was incorrect. Do you have any suggestions on a good mixer?

Rane MP44, or Rane MP2016.

Either the Denon DN-X500 or DN-X900 mixer is a good choice because you can use the X-control feature that will allow you to video crossfade using the crossfader of the mixer.

Windows Vista Premium? no to this, get ultimate 32bit or 64bit but 32bit will be better

My bad i am running 32bit Ultimate.

I'll second that. I have same setup and I love it to death.

Thanks for all of your help and opinions, i have also decided to with the HC4500 and the DN-X500 and use the RMX as a backup.

The "REBOOT" I speak of has not happen to me but once out of the last 6 gigs I've done with the Denon Unit.

Not too sure why it would have to be "REBOOTED" especially when the MIDI controls continue to work within the program?

Just no sound from the Denon outputs, etc...

Even after switching to my backup CD PLAYERS and then rebooting the computer still had the same problem at my last gig?

But since testing it out here at home for hours this week there has been no repeat?

Leaving for a gig in just a little bit and hopefully it will keep doing its thing requiring no dreaded "REBOOT" of anything!

Do you have the latest firmware and drivers installed from Denon?

Hi JPBOGGIS,

I sure do. I even redownloaded them and uploaded them just to be sure because I had a hard drive full of MP3 files [AND THEY WERE ALL BACKED UP!!! BUT OF COURSE NOT WITH ME] burn out and since that happened that same night, all kinds of wacky things were going on that night, even with that drive disconnected because I have the "Hot Swapable" IDE and SATA bays on my gig unit...

I really do love that Mapper you made for the DN-HC4500 too!!!

It sure does make my job much easier! (LOL)

That's because of my M.S. condition, etc...

So again thanks for that great MAPPER!!!

"Reboot", I know what you mean. It's not a big deal it happened maybe twice since February where I just had to unplug it (the contoller) and plug it back in , it is in my rack. It for some reason it wouldn't initialize by just restarting the program or computer.

You are not going crazy DJ TAO! lol

I've never had any issues with mine except the original buggy firmware that kept locking up when the controller was first released. Ever since installing the updated firmware from Denon, it's worked perfectly.

Perhaps you have a faulty/lose USB connection, or perhaps even a faulty HC4500?
