Just had a phone call of one of my best mates of over 20 years. He has ask me if I would do his birthday party 2 weeks on Saturday, I looked in my planner, I have nothing penciled in (Saturday night off from the club then) so I said yes fine mate.

He ask me how I charged, told him he was a daft sod, and as long as he kept the beer coming for me and my girlfriend, I would be it for free, lol, as we have been partners in crime for a very long time.

Well I think I upset him, and he insists in paying me. With him being such a very good friend and knowing him for such a long time I'll feel awful taking money off him. I know business is business, but it will be a casual and fun night to do

What do a say.

just a thought for you Jim, with what you have already said why not come to an agreement with your mate where he leaves an agreed float next to the till and your drinks are taking out from that during the night, this will mean your pal is not running back and forward to the decks all night and anything left goes back into his pocket.

only drawback there is are the bar staff totally trust worthy, or you could agree with the bar manager any drinks you or Sam order are put on a separate key on the till you get a receipt from the staff and you put your autograph on it, then your mate squares up at the end of the night. job sorted.

Yep, I like the sound of that mate, good idea. I'll put that forward to my mate.

Idea No' 1786, invoice sent, payment within seven days....

I understand his feelings Jimmy...if someone I know asks me for a break...I get insulted...think of it this way..he knows you get paid to DJ..just like a plumber or technician gets paid for their job. He did not want to take advantage of your friendship..so he is going to pay you. If you feel that strangely accept his money graciously, and donate the amount he gives to a local charity in his name.....

I had the same story with a friend.
Told him that he must take my wife and I out for dinner.
At the dinner we where talking about his birthday party

do you friend know how much beer you have been drinking on the party ??? LOL ;-)
Maybe you should pay him .

I did a wedding for a buddy of mine for free once - but called it a wedding gift.

He was issued a invoice for $0.00

He got me drunk as hell at his reception. I hit on his wife. good times.
