I just got VDJ 5.2 as a trial, and will be buying a Hercules RMX Controller with the software included, but for now just using my laptop. When I record about 10 min. worth of music I get like 14mb files, is there anyway to cut this down or compress them into smaller files?

Let's say you've been downloading songs at a 128 bit rate = about 4-6 megs depending on length. Now, at a higher quality song of 192 bit and higher your size with increasing for the same song. So if you have a 128 crappy 3 1/2 minuted downloaded song at 5mb and you set the recorded rate at 192. Not only do you have a crappy quality to start with but now you may have a worse quality that takes up more space = 14 - 20mb of space. So, to save space your record down to 128 bits but you loose a lot of the lower end sound because it will not be needed most playback at that rate ( ipods, computer, standard car sound and so on ). The better quality of your speaker the larger you should have music recording - as close to CD quality as possible - storage space is the leading thaught of compression for most people.

a recorded 128 bit sound is not going to have that low / mid end punch it should have from the original. You should think about what your going to be playing your music on in the future. Ipods or one day large clubs. So build your collection from there. You can always go down on rates but never go up.

And if none of that even matters then you can run the recording through windows media player and shrink it dowd to 4mb for the whole 10 minutes. Food for thaught...

I think I did put it down to 128 for recording, but it still comes out pretty large. How do I shrink in down in Media Player? Thanks for the help in advance. I just want to share these online, and myspace only allows 6mb of space, while other places let you go up to 12mb, but my recorded mixes keep coming out pretty large for only 10 min of music.

go to options > rip music ( tab ) > rip music > pull down to what ever you feel is best for you - usaually WMA will work fine. Hell, at this rate you could rip a song at a rate of 1.8mb....

I just thaught about something. I don't know if those websites will accept the wma encoding. Most likely they do but double check to make sure. I never uploaded to these sites. Maybe someone here can further answer the question.
