Hi Guys i have my first gig in a local bar on Friday, its not a club/bar more of a friendly relaxed no so intense atmosphere, however it does get busy, i have been contemplating for days and practicing what song to start off the gig with and have changed my mind on more than one occasion: so far i have shortlisted the following:

Place your hands
I kissed a girl
Disturbia
Mercy
outkast v's Modjo
American boy
Heartbreaker
Sex on fire
sweet about me
Girls
Ting Tings and a few others

Does anyone have any other suggestions I want to make an immediate impact these are all good however the more experienced among you may have alternatives, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Masch

Are you starting when it's already busy, or are you starting when it will be very quiet?

Starting when its already busy the people in there tend to be around an average age of 30ish, if that helps

your gonna have to think on your toes really, just watch the room for a while before you go on, see what is making them tap there feet and twitch there bums, just general body language really, the more they seem to be in tune with a certain type of music that is playing go with that at first, then gently manipulate the music to other formats and guide your audience through the rest of the night, don't forget to listen when been asked for requests that is usually a helpful tool, unless a "tool" asks for something completely stupid, lol,... have a nice night.

if you say they are my age 30ish i would go in early have a look around and prob start off wid a few top 80s tunes then if they are feeling it bring it through to 90s and up to date.as usual gigs depend on you the dj keeping your eyes open and feeling your crowd.if you enjoy them they will enjoy you

Obviously, it's up to you to feel what the vibe is like before you start. 80s could work or you could start right with some new stuff mixed with old or vice versa. Did you have a chance to have a look before you got the OK to play. Your real main focus would probably to play some head bobbing music because most will need to get loose before the night really begins. If you get some people usually woman come up to you hecklin you. Take that as a cue and maybe mix the next song in as what they asked for. Either way keep an eye out for the people surrounding the bar. If it gets to busy, it might be time to start your set for dance.

Look to make some energy as people walk in the door to keep them in.

definately read this thread... very good stuff inside it...
